Old Bay Wings

My wife and I recently spent a few days in lovely Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania while attending a conference. I made sure I had my ‘to-eat’ list down before leaving, because one thing you can be sure of finding in Pittsburgh: good food. At the top of my list was dry chicken wings. No, not dry like ‘ewww, this meat is dry’. Dry as in the wings aren’t tossed in sauce after being cooked. Instead they are dusted with seasoning. The end result is almost like roasted chicken, but with much more pronounced flavors. Once we were back home, I had to make some of the favorites that I devoured in Pittsburgh. Like these Old Bay wings, which are just flat-out incredible.

Old Bay Wings

My Old-Bay Addiction Just Got Worse

It’s really hard to beat crispy chicken wings that have the great crab-boil flavor of Old Bay seasoning. I ate these wings like I hadn’t had anything to eat in weeks. They disappeared so fast your head would spin. They are fantastic. If you’re even remotely as much a fan of Old Bay as I am you will love these wings too. And you bet I licked my fingers when I was done! I’m a professional!

I like to season my wings twice. Once before I cook them. Not heavily, but a little something to get them started. Then, after they are cooked, I really go at it. I season them big-time. I’m not shy with it at all.

I went with ranch dressing for the dipping sauce for these Old Bay seasoning wings, but seriously, you can eat them dry, as-is, with no dippin’ sauce. There’s no need to dunk them in any sauce. The Old Bay flavor stands on its own.

Buffalo Wild Wings Mango Habanero Wings

Well, it does say it right there in the name: Habanero. Some sauces say they have habanero but don’t back it up with the heat (even though they should be quite hot according to the Scolville scale!). Well, Buffalo Wild Wings Mango Habanero wing sauce brings the heat. Oh yeah, you get the mango too. It’s not overwhelmed by the spicy pepper. This is a great sauce when you need some heat and flavor at the same time.

Buffalo Wild Wings Mango Habanero Wings

Great Heat. Great Flavor.

Buffalo Wild Wings Mango Habanero wing sauce is also fantastic on grilled burgers or chicken sandwiches. Really great. Just make sure you don’t have any guests that prefer less spicy foods, ‘cuz this sauce brings the heat and then some. You’ve been warned! (But it’s oooooh so good!)

Kroger Korean BBQ Style Wings

If you’ve never had Korean BBQ sauce, I highly recommend it. For someone who grew up on traditional American-style ketchup BBQ sauces, I find the Asian-inspired Kroger version to be just different enough and downright tasty. Soy sauce, garlic, and a little cayenne for heat make a nice sauce that is just the right thickness for wings. And for the price (on sale for around $2 if you’re lucky) you definitely cannot beat Kroger Korean BBQ Style wing sauce!

Kroger Korean BBQ Style Wings

Asian-Inspired Wing Greatness

I’ve made my own Korean BBQ style wing sauce a number of times. I love homemade sauces. And I love bottled sauces. Especially when they are as good as Kroger Korean BBQ Style Wings sauce.

This sauce is also fantastic as a dipping sauce for chicken nuggets or tenders. It’s also great on burgers, and hot dogs. I love BBQ-like sauces on hot dogs. Add onions (fresh or deep fried) and I’m one happy hot dog-eatin’ guy!

Louisiana Gold Jalapeno Lime Wings

What? Lime? On wings? Yes! Oh yes! I was so wrong when I kinda thought these Louisiana Gold jalapeno lime wings might not be fantastic. The combination of citrus and the lightly spicy pepper sauce (with a little jalapeno kick) is different, great, and just amazing! I don’t know when what I was thinking when I was so pessimistic about how they’d come out! Creole seasoned-wings and the sauce make for the perfect combination. Make these and enjoy something different than the usual vinegary, Buffalo-style wings. Not that there’s anything wrong with those.

Louisiana Gold Jalapeno Lime Wings

One Great Sauce That Makes For Great Wings

This is the first time I bought and used Tabasco’s Louisiana Gold green sauce. It’s really great stuff, specially in these Louisiana Gold Jalapeno lime wings! It’s quite mild heat-wise, has a light pepper flavor, and is just the right consistency for a wing sauce. I just wish it came in a (much) bigger bottle! I’d take a gallon-sized jug for starters!

Dip these wings in some jalapeno Ranch dressing!

Mexican Wings

I have been enjoying the heck out of the flavors of wing sauces I picked up from the House of Wings. Each and every one has been fantastic. Another cool thing about House of Wings is that on their website they have recipes for using their sauces and a few other simple ingredients to create all-new flavors. Like these Mexican chicken wings. They’re crazy easy and crazy delicious and definitely spicy. There’s nothing fancy going on here, just a great wing sauce. The kind you cannot stop eating.

Mexican Wings

Heat, Your Way

It’s easy to customize the heat in these Mexican chicken wings to suit your fancy. All you have to do is adjust the ratio of Southern wing sauce to the Nuclear wing sauce. Want more heat? Cut back on the Southern or just add more Nuclear. Less heat? Add more Southern and/or cut back on the Nuclear. My recommendation is that you add the Nuclear sauce slowly, stirring, tasting as you go, until you get the kick you want.

I store my leftover homemade sauces in squeeze bottles. If refrigerated, I set them out an hour before using so they come to room temperature. You don’t want to put cold sauce on hot wings!

Wing Master Sweet Chili Wings

We spent a few days in Sevierville, TN, this summer, enjoying ourselves at the DreamMore resort. Nearby, thankfully, is a Pepper Palace store. Located at The Island, it’s always at the top of my gotta-go-there list. And as always, I backed up the truck and loaded up with a ton of sauces. Including this crazy-good, amazing sauce for Wing Master Sweet Chili wings. It’s different. It’s Buffalo wing sauce inspired, but with a great pepper twist. And a little sweetness. Not very spicy, but it has just a little kick to it. It’s not thick, and it’s not too thin. This is a great wing sauce, and one I would gladly devour again. And again.

Wing Master Sweet Chili Wings

One Great Wing Sauce

It didn’t take me much of a taste to realize that I wanted Wing Master Sweet Chili wings in my life, that’s for sure. It was the first bottle added to my ‘pile of sauces’ at the checkout counter. And believe me, it was quite the pile!

Pepper Palace makes a ton of great sauces and seasonings, not just for wings. Find a store near you and spend an hour or two wandering the shelves. They always have an area where you can sample sauces and spices, too. It’s like flavor heaven. Instead, if there’s not one near you, take a road trip (it’ll be worth it) or order online.

Korean BBQ Wings

I know I’ve got a great wing sauce when I consider getting a spoon and just eating it right out of the pan. These Korean BBQ wings were fantastic, thanks to a delicious sauce that packs just the right amount of heat. And it’s the perfect, spot-on consistency to boot. There were darned good wings.

Korean BBQ Wings

Asian-Inspired Wing Greatness

I made the sauce exactly as you see below. You’ll notice that it does call for a good amount of sesame oil. If you find sesame oil a bit strong you might want to start with half the amount listed and taste to see if you want more. I went full-bore and loved it.

The sauce for these Korean BBQ wings isn’t just great on wings, either. I strongly recommend you at least double the recipe. You’ll want some sauce on hand to brush (or dip) grilled chicken. It’s also fantastic on smoked or grilled ribs.

Wing Master Honey Garlic Wings

I always swing by a Pepper Palace store whenever I can. Last time, I was in Sevierville, TN, which meant time to spend some quality time at the store at what is known as The Island. Boy did I ever back up the truck on sauces, including this Wing Master Honey Garlic wing sauce. This could easily be one of the best wing sauces I’ve ever had. I cannot get enough of it. The Asian-inspired, slightly sweet, lightly spicy flavors are amazing. This is truly a finger-licking good wing sauce.

Garlicky Sweetness

Pepper Palace’s Wing Master Honey Garlic wing sauce is great for dipping nuggets too. Or slathered on grilled chicken. On grilled veggies. Pretty much anything is better with this thick (but not too thick) sauce on it, in it, or dipped in it.

And yes, I lick up any sauce on the bottom of my plate after I finish off my wings. I’m not letting any of this stuff go to waste!
