Orange Sesame Wings

We love chicken wings with Asian-inspired flavors. We tend to favor the sweeter sauces versus the super hot and spicy. These orange sesame wings were absolutely incredible. As simple as they are, using easily-found ingredients, we could not stop commenting about how great they were while we devoured them. There’s a slight sweet orange citrus flavor and a good amount of sesame.

Orange Sesame Wings

A Wonderful Citrus Flavor

I sometimes find sesame-infused flavors to be easily overpowering, but not in this case. The orange marmalade cools it perfectly. And if you do want a bit of heat to offset the sweetness, add a few pinches of red pepper flake to the sauce.

I store my leftover homemade sauces in squeeze bottles. If refrigerated, I set them out an hour before using so they come to room temperature. You don’t want to put cold sauce on hot wings!

Extra Tasty And Crispy Oven Baked Chicken Wings

The time it took these extra tasty and crispy oven baked chicken wings to cook in the oven seemed to drag on forever. It was painful. The house filled with this fantastic aroma. My stomach growled. And growled. I knew I was in for some delicious wings, and boy, was I ever right. The skin comes out nicely crunchy. The seasoning is spot-on fantastic. For the sauce I just grabbed a bottle out of the fridge, but you can just as easily make one yourself. Or serve them ‘dry’, without sauce.

The Dirty Buffalo Sweet BBQ Wing Sauce Wings

It’s not that I didn’t want traditional Buffalo-style wings for lunch. But I did want a little break from them. I wanted a little sweetness. But not too sweet. I wasn’t looking for dessert wings! I’m a huge fan of BBQ sauced-wings. Any chance I get I tell people they shouldn’t just peruse the wing sauce section of their grocery store. They should spend some time over at the BBQ sauces too. You might find something great and make something almost as good as these The Dirty Buffalo Sweet BBQ wing sauce wings. These are mighty tasty wings and a great alternative to your usual spicy Buffalo wings. They’re definitely the kind of wings you could serve to the “no heat please” crowd.

Two Ingredient Wing Sauce

I am not a hot sauce aficionado. I know what the Scoville scale is, and I know that in general, the smaller the pepper the hotter it is. And there ends my hot sauce knowledge. But I do know what I like, and fortunately there are hundreds and hundreds of hot sauces on the market. All screaming ‘put me on wings’. It can’t get any easier to take that delicious hot sauce and turn it into an ever more delicious wing sauce using my two ingredient wing sauce technique.

Two Ingredient Wing Sauce

Your Heat Your Way

I tend to lean towards the fruit-based hot sauces, and ones that aren’t super-duper hot. They make for the perfect wing sauces. I usually make them using the ‘hot’ technique listed in the steps in my two ingredient wing sauce recipe below. For that spice level I use equal amounts of butter and hot sauce. You can vary the ratio to suit your liking and the sauce you’re using. I’m kind of a butter-a-holic, so I’m happy with more of it rather than less!

The Dirty Buffalo Teriyaki Glaze Wing Sauce Wings

I’m wrapping up my journey through the wing sauces I ordered from The Dirty Buffalo, a regional wing and more joint in south eastern Virginia. Oh, trust me, I’ll be ordering more of their sauces. And seasonings. For now, I’m glad I ended up on what I think is the highest note: The Dirty Buffalo Teriyaki Glaze wing sauce wings. This wing sauce was my favorite. And it was hard to say that, because so many of them have been amazing. But this one really struck a chord with me. The perfect ‘umami’ flavor. Salty, sweet and lightly funky. I could not get enough of this sauce.

Yes, I licked my fingers while eating these wings. And yes I wished I’d gotten more sauce on them.

I Shoulda Bought More

I think this sauce would be fantastic in a stir-fry. Or nuggets. Anything. It’s delicious and perfectly balanced. I definitely should’ve ordered more bottles. Well, that’s ok because I can jump online and order some more, along with all of their other great flavors!

I love this sauce. I’ve always been a big fan of Asian-inspired wing sauces. You might want to also try the delicious teriyaki sauce from Buffalo Wild Wings!

The Dirty Buffalo Sweet Heat Mesquite Wing Sauce Wings

I want to go to The Dirty Buffalo. It’s (more than) a wing joint in a few locations around Norfolk and, Virginia Beach in Virginia. Until I can get there I did the next best thing: I ordered a ton of their wing sauces online. I waited like a kid by the door until they arrived. And when they did, it truly was like Christmas. One of my first things to make were The Dirty Buffalo Sweet Heat Mesquite wing sauce wings. This is one of several of their award-winning sauces, so it seemed like a great place to start. And it was.

The Name Is Truth

Just like the name says, this sauce is a little sweet. But only lightly so. These aren’t dessert wings. Heat? Yes. But again, only slightly so. Well maybe a bit more than slightly if you’re heat-averse. But still, not crazy hot by any stretch. All with a gently smokiness in a sauce that is just the right consistency to stick to your wings without being gloppy. We don’t like gloppy and there’s no gloppy here!

The Dirty Buffalo Sweet Heat Mesquite Wings

Just Make Some Wings!

I used my standard air fryer recipe when I made these The Dirty Buffalo Sweet Heat Mesquite wing sauce wings. You can use whatever approach you want. I happened to go with my air fryer because that’s what I felt like today. Tomorrow, I’ll likely get out my deep-fryer! The key here is to not do anything that will hide the delicious flavors from the sauce. So don’t over-season your wings. Go light with it. Let the sauce shine. It’s really great stuff. Don’t fight it.

You’ll want to sauce up a batch of wings with some spicy BBQ sauce from The Dirty Buffalo, too!

The Dirty Buffalo Sweet Sriracha Wing Sauce Wings

Ask me what wings I had a year ago today and I’d say “good ones” but I can’t remember what wings they were. Wet? Dry? Dunno. I’m sure they were good. Ask me a year from today which wings I had today and I’ll say “The Dirty Buffalo Sweet Sriracha wing sauce wings”!! That’s because there’s no way I’ll forget these wings. The sauce is nicely sweet. There’s a gentle kiss of heat. It’s like sweet chili sauce but with a Sriracha twist. I can see why this sauce is an award winner. It certainly won me over.

The Dirty Buffalo Strawbenero BBQ Wing Sauce Wings

Wow. I am not really a fan of starting a post with ‘wow’. But I have no choice when it comes to The Dirty Buffalo Strawbenero BBQ wing sauce wings. That first taste was a big ‘wow’ moment. I’ve used fruit-flavored sauces on my wings before. Blueberry. Blackberry. Even watermelon. But I had never had one that was infused with strawberry flavors. And most of the fruit sauces were sweeter, with no heat. Although this sauce is slightly sweet, it brings a little heat too. And the first amount of strawberry flavor. The idea of strawberry-flavored wings may sound odd to you at first, but believe me, they’re nothing but a big ‘wow’.

The Dirty Buffalo Strawbenero BBQ Wings

Deliciously Fruity

I fried up a batch of wings my usual way. Light on the flour, light on the seasoning. Fried to crispy perfection. Then I tossed them (gently) in The Dirty Buffalo Strawbenero BBQ wing sauce. The sauce has the aroma of fresh strawberries. It’s rather pleasant. That first taste brings strawberry first. A little sweetness. And just a little kick from habanero. The heat offsets the sweetness perfectly. This sauce would be perfect on anything that requires a BBQ sauce. Ribs for sure. Pulled pork? Absolutely. Brisket? Perfect.

When you order some sauce from The Dirty Buffalo, get extra. This one is unique, tasty and a real joy on wings.

All of the sauces from The Dirty Buffalo are amazing! Also try their Margarita Buffalo wing sauce on some homemade wings!

The Dirty Buffalo Spicy BBQ Wing Sauce Wings

I’m a big fan of wings tossed in BBQ sauce. Really, they’re not much different than most wing sauces so why not? And there’s an amazing variety of BBQ sauces to be found at your local grocery store. Sometimes wing sauces (at least a good variety of them) can be harder to find. The Dirty Buffalo Spicy BBQ wing sauce wings live up to their name. A great fairly traditional BBQ lightly sweet sauce, with just the right amount of heat. Nothing over-the-top crazy spicy here, just a nice gentle heat. And yes, you can definitely use this sauce on ribs. Or burgers. Or even dipping those boneless things they call wings!

The Dirty Buffalo Spicy BBQ Wings
The Dirty Buffalo Spicy BBQ Wings

Any Kind Of Wing. Only One Sauce.

For my The Dirty Buffalo Spicy BBQ wing sauce wings I decided to make deep-fried wings. A fairly light crunchy coating makes for a great way to capture all that delicious sauce. First time I had them, I drizzled the wings with sauce and tossed them gently to coat. Second time I served the sauce on the side for dunking the wings instead. Why? Because no matter how gentle you are tossing your deep-fried wings, you’re going to knock off some of that delicious crunchiness. Dip them instead and you won’t lose a thing.

The Dirty Buffalo Spicy Garlic Ranch Wing Sauce Wings

I enjoy a great plate of wings. Who doesn’t? The kind where I take a bite and just say “Oh that’s good.”. No analysis. No checklist. Just enjoy the moment. That’s what I did with these The Dirty Buffalo Spicy Garlic Ranch wing sauce wings. Instead of trying to describe the sauce right off the bat, I just enjoyed my lunch. And boy did I. You know you’ve had great wings when your thought after the last bite is “I can’t wait to have those again.”.

The Dirty Buffalo Spicy Garlic Ranch Wings

It’s About The Sauce

I didn’t make any fancy fru-fru wings. Just some simple air fryer wings. I had tunnel vision. I wanted to get to that sauce! The Dirty Buffalo spicy garlic Ranch wing sauce wings more than hit the spot. They were nicely spicy. They have a great kick to them. Not overwhelmingly so, but very enjoyable. The sauce is like a Buffalo Ranch sauce. Kind of a creamy Buffalo sauce really. All with a hint of garlic. Not a ‘ward off the vampires’ amount of garlic. Just right.

I’d eat wings tossed in this sauce all day long. Sometimes I use a lot of sauce. Some times I use less. Either way, they’re fantastic!
