The Dirty Buffalo Buffalo Soldier Wings

It’s comforting to know that there’s someone out there looking out for the rest of us. They toil and toil, night and day, making sure we all get the greatest wing sauces ever. At least one of them is at The Dirty Buffalo, a southern Virginia regional sports pub that clearly is devoted to great food and in particular, wings. Their Buffalo Soldier wing sauce is just one example of the results of a devotion to great-tasting sauces. I couldn’t get enough of my homemade wings tossed in this sauce.

The Dirty Buffalo Buffalo Soldier Wings

Jerk. And Right Kind of Jerk.

The Dirty Buffalo Buffalo Soldier wing sauce hits you with a decent island-inspired jerk flavor. And a good dose of heat, too. Neither is overwhelming. I love jerk flavors, I often make jerk chicken on my charcoal grill. But it can be too much for me. It’s the allspice that can do me. But not in this sauce. It has just the perfect amount. Enough (along with other ingredients) to give me that jerk flavor without being too much jerk.

I kept my wings simple. I was after the sauce. Just my simple air fryer wings. You can use any plain wings you want. Just don’t use anything that is heavily spiced or flavored. You don’t want the wings to fight with the sauce.

I love this sauce. It’s finger-licking good. Just like every single other sauce I’ve had from The Dirty Buffalo. Jump over to their site and order some of them. Or rather, all of them.

The Dirty Buffalo Garlic Parmesan Wings

So I went and ordered a bunch of sauces from The Dirty Buffalo a more-than-a-wing-joint in Virginia. I kinda randomly started with them, making wings, having a great time. Then along came these The Dirty Buffalo Garlic Parmesan wings. And my world changed. Sure, all the sauces I’ve tried are amazingly good. Fantastic. But this sauce? Above and beyond. I am stuck on these wings big time. Oh so good and garlicky. Lots of it. And Parmesan? Parmesan galore. My goodness do I ever love this sauce. Many thanks to The Dirty Buffalo for this one.

The Dirty Buffalo Garlic Parmesan Wings

Dip Or Drag

I love this sauce so much that I found myself dragging my wings thru the sauce on the bottom of my plate so I didn’t waste any. The Dirty Buffalo Garlic Parmesan wings are so good I just couldn’t stop. I licked my plate. I can do that because I was eating at home. But honestly, I’d do it in their restaurant too. I’m betting that they are used to that by now! If you’re worried what others might think of you, just order more sauce on the side and get to dipping!

Just Make Some Wings

I used my air fryer to make my standard batch of wings then sauced them. You can make your wings any way you want. Just don’t use anything that might overpower the sauce. Don’t go crazy with any seasoning. The sauce is the winner here. Big time. Let it shine!

I Shoulda Bought More

I think this sauce would be fantastic on a salad. I’m not going to try it though. I just bought one bottle. I gotta have my wings. Next time, I’ll get more and try it on some greens!

The Dirty Buffalo Sweet BBQ Wings

It’s not that I didn’t want traditional Buffalo-style wings for lunch. But I did want a little break from them. I wanted a little sweetness. But not too sweet. I wasn’t looking for dessert wings! I’m a huge fan of BBQ sauced-wings. Any chance I get I tell people they shouldn’t just peruse the wing sauce section of their grocery store. They should spend some time over at the BBQ sauces too. You might find something great and make something almost as good as these The Dirty Buffalo Sweet BBQ wings. These are mighty tasty wings and a great alternative to your usual spicy Buffalo wings. They’re definitely the kind of wings you could serve to the “no heat please” crowd.

The Dirty Buffalo Sweet Heat Mesquite Wings

I want to go to The Dirty Buffalo. It’s (more than) a wing joint in a few locations around Norfolk and, Virginia Beach in Virginia. Until I can get there I did the next best thing: I ordered a ton of their wing sauces online. I waited like a kid by the door until they arrived. And when they did, it truly was like Christmas. One of my first things to make were The Dirty Buffalo Sweet Heat Mesquite wings. This is one of several of their award-winning sauces, so it seemed like a great place to start. And it was.

The Name Is Truth

Just like the name says, this sauce is a little sweet. But only lightly so. These aren’t dessert wings. Heat? Yes. But again, only slightly so. Well maybe a bit more than slightly if you’re heat-averse. But still, not crazy hot by any stretch. All with a gently smokiness in a sauce that is just the right consistency to stick to your wings without being gloppy. We don’t like gloppy and there’s no gloppy here!

The Dirty Buffalo Sweet Heat Mesquite Wings

Just Make Some Wings!

I used my standard air fryer recipe when I made these The Dirty Buffalo Sweet Heat Mesquite wings. You can use whatever approach you want. I happened to go with my air fryer because that’s what I felt like today. Tomorrow, I’ll likely get out my deep-fryer! The key here is to not do anything that will hide the delicious flavors from the sauce. So don’t over-season your wings. Go light with it. Let the sauce shine. It’s really great stuff. Don’t fight it.

The Dirty Buffalo Strawbenero BBQ Wings

Wow. I am not really a fan of starting a post with ‘wow’. But I have no choice when it comes to The Dirty Buffalo Strawbenero BBQ wings. That first taste was a big ‘wow’ moment. I’ve used fruit-flavored sauces on my wings before. Blueberry. Blackberry. Even watermelon. But I had never had one that was infused with strawberry flavors. And most of the fruit sauces were sweeter, with no heat. Although this sauce is slightly sweet, it brings a little heat too. And the first amount of strawberry flavor. The idea of strawberry-flavored wings may sound odd to you at first, but believe me, they’re nothing but a big ‘wow’.

The Dirty Buffalo Strawbenero BBQ Wings

Deliciously Fruity

I fried up a batch of wings my usual way. Light on the flour, light on the seasoning. Fried to crispy perfection. Then I tossed them (gently) in The Dirty Buffalo Strawbenero BBQ wing sauce. The sauce has the aroma of fresh strawberries. It’s rather pleasant. That first taste brings strawberry first. A little sweetness. And just a little kick from habanero. The heat offsets the sweetness perfectly. This sauce would be perfect on anything that requires a BBQ sauce. Ribs for sure. Pulled pork? Absolutely. Brisket? Perfect.

When you order some sauce from The Dirty Buffalo, get extra. This one is unique, tasty and a real joy on wings.

The Dirty Buffalo Teriyaki Glaze Wings

I’m wrapping up my journey through the wing sauces I ordered from The Dirty Buffalo, a regional wing and more joint in south eastern Virginia. Oh, trust me, I’ll be ordering more of their sauces. And seasonings. For now, I’m glad I ended up on what I think is the highest note: The Dirty Buffalo Teriyaki Glaze wings. This wing sauce was my favorite. And it was hard to say that, because so many of them have been amazing. But this one really struck a chord with me. The perfect ‘umami’ flavor. Salty, sweet and lightly funky. I could not get enough of this sauce.

Yes, I licked my fingers while eating these wings. And yes I wished I’d gotten more sauce on them.

I think this sauce would be fantastic in a stir-fry. Or nuggets. Anything. It’s delicious and perfectly balanced. I definitely should’ve ordered more bottles. Well, that’s ok because I can jump online and order some more, along with all of their other great flavors!

The Dirty Buffalo Extra Hot Buffalo Wings

Nowhere on the bottle did it read ‘extra creamy’. And nowhere did it read ‘extra smooth’. But it did read ‘extra hot’. And ‘extra hot’ is no lie, either. If they had room they could’ve added ‘extra tasty’. But they didn’t have room. The Dirty Buffalo knows wing sauces and these extra hot Buffalo wings are proof. They definitely pack some heat. Not crazy heat but you’re gonna feel it for sure. And flavor, too. It’s not just about fire here.

Delicious Pain

I fried up a batch of wings my usual way. Light on the flour, light on the seasoning. Fried to crispy perfection. Then I tossed them (gently) in The Dirty Buffalo Extra hot Buffalo wing sauce. I went light on the sauce the first time. I knew I was in for some heat. And I was kinda scared. So I went easy. What I got was delicious pain. Great pain. And flavor so good I wish I’d used more sauce.

So the next batch of wings I did. And those hurt too. But they sure were mighty good. Sure, I had extra Ranch nearby. Ya know, just in case.

The Dirty Buffalo Margarita Buffalo Wings

The fine folks over at The Dirty Buffalo come up with some mighty great wing sauces. I ordered a ton of them to enjoy at home. Unfortunately, I’m a bit far from Virginia Beach and thereabouts so I can’t just swing by one of their restaurants and grab some grub there. Sadly, this is the last bottle of sauce I had on hand. But, oh did I ever save a great one to go out on. The Dirty Buffalo Margarita Buffalo wings are different in a very good way. Kinda taco-sauce like but not like if you went to Taco Bell, grabbed a bunch of sauce packs and drizzled them over your wings. Much better than that. There’s a good hint of lime. And just a kiss of cilantro. Like taco sauce elevated. All that with a good healthy dose of spiciness.

The Dirty Buffalo Margarita Buffalo Wings

Don’t Hide The Sauce

You can make your wings however you prefer for The Dirty Buffalo Margarita Buffalo wings. I decided to air fry mine. No matter which way you go, I suggest you don’t over-season your wings. Go light. Maybe just salt and pepper. At most. You don’t want something that’ll fight this wing sauce. You want to get the true flavor that was intended by the creators. It’s true, I kept some Ranch dressing on hand but honestly, I didn’t need it. I should’ve kept it in the fridge. These wings don’t need it. The flavor and heat are spot on great. So go to The Dirty Buffalo’s site and order up some of their sauces (and seasonings). This sauce, and all the rest, do not disappoint. In fact, they amaze!

The Dirty Buffalo Spicy Garlic Ranch Wings

I enjoy a great plate of wings. Who doesn’t? The kind where I take a bite and just say “Oh that’s good.”. No analysis. No checklist. Just enjoy the moment. You know you’ve had great wings when your thought after the last bite is “I can’t wait to have those again.”.

The Dirty Buffalo Spicy Garlic Ranch Wings

It’s About The Sauce

I didn’t make any fancy fru-fru wings. Just some simple air fryer wings. I had tunnel vision. I wanted to get to that sauce! The Dirty Buffalo spicy garlic Ranch wings more than hit the spot. They were nicely spicy. They have a great kick to them. Not overwhelmingly so, but very enjoyable. The sauce is like a Buffalo Ranch sauce. Kind of a creamy Buffalo sauce really. All with a hint of garlic. Not a ‘ward off the vampires’ amount of garlic. Just right.

I’d eat wings tossed in this sauce all day long. Sometimes I use a lot of sauce. Some times I use less. Either way, they’re fantastic!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Lightly spray the basket of your air fryer with non-stick spray. Preheat per manufacturer's recommendation to 350 F.
  • Lightly salt the wings on all sides.
  • Add the wings to the basket (be careful it's hot!).
  • Cook wings for 12 minutes.
  • Flip the wings and cook another 12 minutes.
  • Increase the air fryer temperature to 400 F and cook another 6 minutes.
  • Remove wings from fryer and place in a bowl. Toss with the sauce. Click here for our guide on how to sauce wings.
  • Remove wings from the bowl and serve immediately.

Notes

Note: If your wing sauce is refrigerated, set it out on the countertop before starting the wings so that it warms up a bit. You don’t want to put cold sauce on hot wings.
Note: The full 30 minute cook time is for large, meaty wings. If your wings are a bit thinner (er… scrawny) back the times down to 10/10/4 minutes instead of 12/12/6 minutes.
