Air Fryer Holy Voodoo Dry Wings

Grillers and BBQ smokers all over the country tout how great Meat Church’s seasonings are. Me, I always make wings first with any new seasoning I pick up. I don’t sauce them. I don’t bury them in other flavors. My favorite is making dry wings. And I found these air fryer Holy Voodoo dry wings to be absolutely delicious! The seasoning is slight sweet with both white and brown sugar. It’s a bit salty, but I do tend to like salty seasonings. And it’s just a tad spicy. It’s one of the most balanced mixes I’ve had. There wasn’t anything about it that I didn’t just flat-out love. No wonder everyone is talking about it!

Air Fryer Holy Voodoo Wings

Double-Seasoned

I season my air fryer Holy Voodoo dry wings a bit before putting them into the air fryer. Now, because of the sugars in the seasoning I don’t go nuts with it. But I want that flavor before to be added before and after cooking the wings. You can actually skip this step but.. why?

… And sometimes I go for the triple play! I also season my wings (AGAIN!) once I have them on the plate or platter or in the basket… or however I’m going to serve them. Just that one last ‘hit’ of seasoning before I sit down to devour them!

Try all of the seasonings from Meat Church on wings. Or whatever you’re cooking.

There’s nothing fancy about the air fryer that I use. But it works great on wings. I use it a lot. And I do mean a lot. Mostly for wings. I know. Shocking. Cleanup is fairly easy. It easily holds enough wings for two people. Or one me when I’m really wing-hungry.

Sweet, salty and just spicy enough!
Prep Time30 minutes

Course: Appetizer
Cuisine: American
Keyword: air fryer, wings
Servings: 1

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Season the wings with the Meat Church Holy Voodoo seasoning. Don't go crazy with it as the high heat from the air fryer can burn the sugars. You want enough to taste the great flavors, but don't drown the wings in it.
  • Place wings in fridge for 30 minutes.
  • Lightly spray the basket of your air fryer with non-stick spray. Preheat per manufacturer's recommendation to 350 F.
  • Add the wings to the basket (be careful it's hot!).
  • Cook wings for 12 minutes.
  • Flip the wings and cook another 12 minutes.
  • Increase the air fryer temperature to 400 F and cook another 6 minutes.
  • Remove wings from fryer and place in a bowl. Toss with more seasoning, to taste. Now's a good time to not be shy with the seasoning.
  • Let cool slightly (the wings will crisp as they cool) then serve.

Notes

Note: The full 30 minute cook time is for large, meaty wings. If your wings are a bit thinner (er… scrawny) back the times down to 10/10/4 minutes instead of 12/12/6 minutes.

Simple Truth Organic Mild Buffalo Wings

I wanted to like all of the wing sauces from Simple Truth, Kroger’s line of organic products. But I could not bring myself to do it. I missed flavor. I wanted more. And, I wanted thicker. Sorry, but these Simple Truth Organic Mild Buffalo wings just didn’t quite get it for me. They were close, and they weren’t bad, they just didn’t wow me.

Simple Truth Organic Mild Buffalo Wings

Well… They Aren’t Perfect…

I suppose I should cut these Simple Truth Organic Mild Buffalo wings a bit of slack. The sauce does have nothing but good ingredients in it, and you can’t fault that. But oh, do I wish it was thicker and had more flavor. Then I would’ve been happy. Right now, well, I’m kind of sad.

Tellin’ It Like I See It

This blog isn’t all about the sauces I love. That’s why I posted this. Heck, you might look at it and give it a try, and love it. If you do, that’s great! Let me know and I’ll be happy to post an opposing review.

Brrrrrrrrr!

Put any leftover sauce in an air-tight container and keep it in the fridge until the next time you make wings. When it’s time to sauce your wings don’t just pour that cold sauce over them. You’ve spent all that times getting your wings perfect. Crispy skin. Perfect coating. Hot. No matter how you cooked them, you devoted time to making sure they are spot-on delicious. Do not ruin them by adding a cold sauce. First, obviously, it’ll make them cold. In an instant. And secondly, and just as important, cold sauce will make that crunchy skin un-crunchy even quicker than a hot sauce.

So bring your sauce to at least room temperature before using it. If you want, warm it on the stovetop. I’m not a fan of using a microwave to warm sauces, but you can do that if you want.

Four Sixes Top Hand Hickory BBQ Sauce Wings

If you watch the TV series Yellowstone you’ve heard of Four Sixes. Now the famous Texas ranch has put out a line of BBQ sauces and seasonings and all sorts of stuff. Me, I got wings on my mind and not horses, so I grabbed a bottle of all of their sauces at my local grocery store and got to making me some hand-held grub. These Four Sixes Top Hand Hickory BBQ sauce wings hit the spot. Heck, I even thought for a moment there I was gathered around the chuck wagon on a hot Texas evening after a long day of cow herdin’. Good ole BBQ flavor. Lightly smoky. Lightly sweet. And just darned good.

Four Sixes Top Hand Hickory BBQ Wings

Get To Saucin’

I gotta admit, I’m not into lightly saucing my wings when it comes to BBQ sauce. Especially when it’s as good as this sauce is. So I cook up my wings. However I want. Sometimes it’s over an open fire like cowboys would. Or in an air fryer, like no cowboy would. Then I toss or brush them with sauce. Lots of sauce. I like my Four Sixes Top Hand Hickory BBQ sauce wings saucy!

Ranch on the Ranch

I kinda get the feelin’ that cowboys don’t carry around bottles of Ranch dressing while they’re working the herds. But I gotta have Ranch with my BBQ wings. I love that combination of cool Ranch and sweet bold BBQ. So if I was a cowboy, I’d hide a bottle under my saddle. Well, maybe not. Nobody likes hot Ranch.

Air Fryer Maple Wings

Yowsa. Now we’re talking about some seriously devour-worthy wings. These air fryer maple wings are beyond finger-lickingly good. As soon as I took my first bite I instantly regretted not making more wings and sauce. The wings are your standard air fryer wings. A little seasoning and cooked until the skin is crispy. The sauce, though, is the star of the show. The right sweetness. The right umami thing. And just a kiss of heat. These are great wings!

Air Fryer Maple Wings

Step Up Your Teriyaki Game

You can use whatever teriyaki sauce you like to make these air fryer maple wings. But for me, my go-to teriyaki sauce is from the fine folks over at Bourbon Barrel Food. They have two versions actually. The Kentuckyaki sauce is a wonderfully bourbon-infused sauce that has such a great, deep flavor. It’s great anywhere I need a teriyaki sauce. And of course their spicy version is … spicier! It also makes for a great sauce for these wings!

The maple syrup in this sauce gives off a wonderful, sweet, warm aroma. It kind of ‘sets the mood’ for these wings. Turn down the lights, sit down, and enjoy some great wings!

Oh, The Sauce!

As easy as it is to make, and as simple as the ingredients are, the sauce is really amazing. Wings are not this sauce’s only perfect match, either. It’s perfect for dipping chicken nuggets or fingers. Like beyond perfect even. Slather it on grilled chicken breast just before you put it on a bun for a chicken sandwich. Yum.

Ribs are another great use for this sauce. Asian-inspired flavors and pork are the perfect marriage. Try it and you’ll never go back to using traditional BBQ sauces on your ribs.

Oh, and burgers too! Ground pork or chicken burgers are even better with the sauce on them!

And squeeze a lot. This is a great sauce that’ll make everyone happy. The sweet crowd. The spicy crowd. Happy all around!

What? Not just for wings?

Now, I can’t say I’ve tried it, but I’ve read where a lot of people love this sauce on more than wings. Gasp! What? You put a wing sauce on something other than wings??? ! Ok, well, if that’s your thing… go for it. Try it on pizza. Or ice cream. I don’t care. I use mine on wings.

What Are You Waiting For?

Go make some wings! It’s not that hard to do! My go-to method is to air-fry them. A little seasoning first. Air-fried to perfection. Fantastic aroma as they cook. Crispy skin. Juicy meat. Tender. Ready for a sauce. Air-fried wings can hold up to being tossed with sauce, so that’s what I do. If they were deep-fried with a batter I wouldn’t abuse them like that. I’d gently brush the sauce on. Or serve it on the side, for dipping.

See my guides for cooking your wings, and saucing them! I’ve got you covered!

My Trusty Wingman

My air fryer isn’t fancy. It doesn’t have any bells and whistles. Well, ok, it does have a bell when the timer goes off but that’s it. I don’t even use the timer actually. I use a timer on my phone that has two countdowns: one for 12 minutes and one for 6 minutes. That’s all I ever need to get perfect wings each and every time!

Easy Buttermilk-Battered Cajun Wings

I’ve apologized before for making chicken wings that crossed the line into fried chicken land. Well, no more. Fried wings are fried chicken. Yeah, the more coating there is the more they’re like grandma’s fried chicken. But you won’t confuse these easy buttermilk-battered Cajun wings with what your favorite nana makes. No way is that going to happen. In fact, your grandma might not like these, especially since the last time you were over at her house she said that those ranch Doritos you left her were too hot.

A wonderful spicy kick

These wings themselves already have a little kick to them. Serve them with a side of spicy Buffalo wing sauce and you definitely won’t be yearning for a side of mashed potatoes and some green beans. You might be reaching for a cold beer, though. You can make these even hotter by adding more hot sauce, of course. As they are I’d call them ‘nicely spicy’.

Easy Buttermilk-Battered Cajun Wings

Get Naked

Quite honestly, these easy buttermilk-battered Cajun wings don’t need any kind of sauce. At least not directly on them. Just serve them right out of the deep-fryer. Ok, let them cool for a minute or two first but then get to eating! They’re packed with flavor and don’t need anything else. And oh, that crunchy batter! It’s so crazy delicious!

But….

If you still like a dipping sauce, like I do, do it on the side. Be it Buffalo sauce, ranch or blue cheese or whatever you want. I use these little condiment cups for them. They’re small but not tiny. They’re big enough for wings to dip them properly and that’s the goal. I use them all of the time for other things too, like salad dressings.

Crispy Woodfired Garlic Dry Wings

I made some delicious dry wings the other day using Kinder’s woodfired garlic rub. Man, were they ever insanely good. I fell in love with the roasted garlic flavor. Mixed with other spices, it’s a rich seasoning that is great on any meat. I was craving some deep-fried wings next, so I decided to add some of the seasoning and make my crispy woodfired garlic dry wings. And boy, did they ever deliver on flavor!

Crispy Woodfired Garlic Wings

Easy. Crunchy. And Tasty.

These crispy woodfired garlic dry wings took no time to prepare and cook. And eat for that matter. Kinder’s seasonings and sauces never disappoint. They don’t cut corners when it comes to quality and flavor. All I had to do was mix a little of this packed-with-roasted garlic seasoning with some flour and coat some wings. I let them ‘get happy’ in the fridge for 30 minutes. Then I fried them. That’s it. That’s all it takes to make perfect wings.

You have to take care of your dry seasonings. In return, they’ll take care of you by always being ready the next time you need them! Protect seasonings from the four main enemies of flavor: heat, light, air, and moisture. Never store them above the stove or oven, where steam and temperature swings cause caking and quick degradation. If you have a problem with high humidity causing your dry seasonings to cake, try adding a silica gel packet to the containers to remove moisture.

Fry, Baby!

I love deep-fried wings. But it’s usually just me I’m cooking for. So there’s no reason for me to drag out my big deep-fryer that could easily cook for a crowd. No, this calls for my Fry Daddy. Perfect for one-to-four people’s-worth of wings. And it doesn’t use a lot of oil, that’s a major plus. It gets to temperature quickly and maintains it even when I add cold wings. It’s priced right too and lasts forever!
