Meijer Medium Buffalo Wings

This right here is yet another example of why you should not poo-poo generic wing sauces. I absolutely love all of the Meijer wing sauces. Meijer’s Medium Buffalo wing sauce is lightly spicy, has that great Buffalo wing flavor, and has the perfect consistency. And consistency is important. Too many less-expensive sauces are watery. You end up with 10 times as much sauce on your plate as you do on your wings. That’s not why you made wings. You want them covered in sauce, not swimming in sauce soup.

Meijer Medium Buffalo Wings

Here in Indy at least, Meijer’s wing sauces are all under $3 for a 12 ounce bottle. That’s a really good price, and I often find them on sale for $2.80 or even less. That’s back-up-the-truck and load-up-on-wing sauce time for me. You can’t beat the price or the flavor, be it the Meijer medium Buffalo wing sauce or any other flavor. And they’re all-natural to boot!

Stubb’s Texas Sriracha Wings

Stubb’s recently came out with a line of marinades and what they call anytime sauces. Our local grocery store had them all on sale, so I grabbed two or three bottles of each and headed on home with thoughts of the many things I was going to use them in. First up? Wings of course, so I grabbed a bottle of Anytime sauce and went to work making a batch of Stubb’s Texas Sriracha wings!

Stubb's Texas Sriracha Wings

The heat from the Texas sriracha sauce isn’t overpowering. Great flavor and a bit of a kick. It’s what I’d call the perfect bottled sauce, and absolutely the best thing for Stubb’s Texas Sriracha wings (or grilled chicken, or steak for that matter). It makes for the perfect (kicked up) substitute for the ‘normal’ Sriracha sauce you already use.

Also try Stubb’s black pepper wings.

Dr Pepper & Cream Soda Wings

The first time I tasted Dr Pepper & Cream Soda I knew I was going to make a wing sauce with it. I mean that stuff is just flat-out fantastic, specially for a big Dr Pepper fan (me!). So I made the sauce. Happily. And boy, is this ever crazy good.

Classic Dr Pepper flavor, a little creamy sweetness, and just a slight kick of Buffalo sauce, this sauce is fantastic. Each flavor is different. Nothing is lost. You’ll get everything in every single bite. Could this be the perfect wing sauce?

Dr Pepper & Cream Soda Wings

I would not change a thing about these Dr Pepper & Cream Soda wings. The flavor is unique and delicious. I like my sauce a bit thick, but not gloppy thick, so I added a little cornstarch at the end to help thicken it up. You can leave it out if you want. After the sauce reduces take a spoon and dip it in the sauce to see if you want it thicker or not.

There’s nothing wrong with serving a bit extra of the sauce on the side for dipping the wings, along with Ranch and blue cheese dressing.

I store my leftover homemade sauces in squeeze bottles. If refrigerated, I set them out an hour before using so they come to room temperature. You don’t want to put cold sauce on hot wings!

Meijer Honey Barbecue Wings

Wow. I’ve got to stop being so surprised as to how great the wing sauces are from Meijer. I mean no disrespect to the fine people at Meijer, but I wasn’t expecting such great flavor and texture from a well, cheaper, sauce. I’ve loved every one I’ve tried and I’ll be getting more and more, again and again. The Meijer honey barbecue wing sauce is spot on. Low in heat, but high in flavor. A little sweet with a little smoky. I’m willing to bet this sauce would be equally as great on ribs or pulled pork. It’s darned good!

Meijer Honey Barbecue Wings

Meijer has a full line of wing sauces. Check them out! They’re all natural and don’t contain anything ‘weird’ in them. And another plus is that they come in glass bottles. None of that strange plastic flavor going on here. Just good stuff just like this Meijer Honey Barbecue wing sauce.

Ancho Peach Wings

I was sad. Sad because I definitely did not make enough wings. Tossed with ancho peach sauce, these wings were so good it would be almost impossible to eat too many. Slightly smoky. Slightly sweet. And a little heat. And the perfect consistency to stick to the wings and not to the bottom of the plate. Grab some napkins and get ready… there’s nothing but great stuff here!

Ancho Peach Wings

Try different preserves

Apricot preserves also make for a great ancho wing sauce, so feel free to mix things up a bit. I strongly recommend doubling the sauce. Any leftover can be used on grilled chicken, smoked ribs, pulled pork, you name it. It’s just all-around great and not just on ancho peach wings.

Bloody Mary Wings

Sometimes a wing sauce is sooooo good you have to decide between using it on your wings or just drinking it straight up. Now, I didn’t use vodka or any other booze in this sauce, and honestly, it doesn’t need it. You get great Bloody Mary flavors with a hint of Buffalo sauce kick. It’s crazy good, and perhaps the best scratch-made wing sauce I’ve ever had.

If you prefer to add booze just put a splash or two of Vodka in the wing sauce. Or, if you prefer your wings ‘dry’, skip the sauce. The wings are absolutely divine seasoned with just the Bloody Mary seasoning mix, just add a few more pinches to the wings after they are cooked and toss.

Bloody Mary Wings

The idea for Bloody Mary wings hit me after making a batch of Bloody Mary glass rim seasoning. After tasting it I knew instantly that I needed to use it on wings. For the sauce you make your pretty standard Buffalo wing sauce with the addition of Bloody Mary seasoning and mix.

Also try my dry (not sauced) version of Bloody Mary wings!

Adobo Buffalo Wings

Nothing makes me happier than discovering a wing sauce that can be used on much more than ‘just’ wings. The sauce on these adobo Buffalo wings packs some mild heat, just enough and just right. There’s a little sweetness, a little smokiness, and my favorite, a hint of soy sauce. Each bite is a wonderful combination of flavors.

Adobo Buffalo Wings

One great sauce!

The sauce on these adobo Buffalo wings is thick, thick enough for sticking to smoked or grill ribs, chicken, burgers… you name it. I’d definitely recommend doubling the sauce.

Kick it up a bit!

For a little more kick add more adobo, cayenne or red chili flakes. You can also substitute hot sauce for the Buffalo wing sauce, but the Buffalo sauce does add that nice traditional wing flavor.

Fried Chicken Wing Dredge

This is my go-to dredge when making fried chicken wings. It’s not too thick, so the wings don’t end up like Grandma’s fried chicken. It’s light enough to add a bit of crunch. It’s flavored just right so as to not over-power whichever sauce or seasoning I add in the end.

Fried Chicken Wing Dredge

My fried chicken wing dredge ain’t nothing fancy, but it does the job and it does it well. I make a huge batch and keep it on hand. I put a label on the outside of the container with the words ‘wing thing’ so I know exactly what’s inside!

If you’d rather buy your dredge, I cannot recommend Hooter’s wing breading. Who doesn’t love Hooter’s wings? It’s awesome on wings, like my air fryer version.

I like to make my spice, rub and seasoning mixes in big batches and keep them in large bottles with easy-to-pour shaker lids.

Backyard BBQ Wings

These Backyard BBQ wings bring back memories. Memories of years ago, as a kid, enjoying those classic neighborhood grill-outs. The dads gathered around charcoal grills, the moms chatting away in a circle of lawn chairs. Us kids playing, running all over the place and even getting yelled out when we came to close to the grill.

You’d find mostly grilled chicken and burgers at these cook-outs. The chicken would be heavily brushed in BBQ sauce. Like these wings. Same great flavors as back then, but on delicious wings instead.

There’s nothing I would change about Backyard BBQ wings. They’re easy to make. They come out juicy, tender and delicious. And they remind me of that grilled barbecue chicken from long ago.
