Croix Valley Mango Habanero Dry Wings

I didn’t have to make dry wings. I could’ve seasoned them and then sauced them. But I’m a huge fan of dry wings and Croix Valley Mango Habanero Dry Wings are some of the best I’ve ever had. All I had to do was cook up a batch of wings and toss them in the seasoning and enjoy a crazy good lunch. Up first, I got the heat. And a good bit of it too. Then that spiciness took a back seat and up came the tropical fruitiness of mango. Heck no, I couldn’t get enough! These wings did not last at all!

Croix Valley Mango Habanero Dry Wings

Tropical Flavor with a Great Kick

I knew these Croix Valley Mango Habanero Dry Wings would be great as soon as I opened the seasoning pouch. It’s always good to get a little taste the first time you use a rub or a sauce. Without that you might use too much. You can always add more, but it’s hard to use less once you’ve already seasoned your wings!

Croix Valley Hickory Barbecue Dry Wings

My wife said that her first bite of these Croix Valley Hickory Barbecue Dry Wings made her think of her favorite BBQ potato chips. There’s no mistaking the fantastic flavor of this seasoning. It’s really good and very well balanced. If you’re looking for the flavor of BBQ chicken (or really good BBQ chips!) you’re in luck. We both enjoyed the heck out of these wings.

Croix Valley Hickory Barbecue Dry Wings

Great BBQ Flavor

I keep my Croix Valley hickory barbecue dry wings simple. I cook them first, and usually without any seasoning on them. I’ll add a bit of salt if I’m cooking them on a deep fryer or grill. But, I don’t add anything else, specially not something that might burn (like seasonings that contain sugar).

Dry Wings Are A Favorite

After the wings are done, and while they’re still hot and a bit oily, I toss them in seasoning. That’s when the wings and the seasoning are going to come together the best. If you wait until the wings cool the seasoning won’t stick as well. Also, make sure you use a quality seasoning.

Legend Larry’s Teriyaki Wing Sauce Wings

Legend Larry’s makes some absolutely terrific wing sauces. I’ve enjoyed them all, again and again. Their Teriyaki wing sauce, though, is something above and beyond absolutely terrific. This is a big favorite in our house. We always look forward to a batch of wings covered in this sauce. It’s nice and thick, but not gloppy. It’s likely sweet, but not cloyingly so. It has that traditional teriyaki flavor, but it’s not so strong that it overpowers your senses. It’s the perfect balance of everything you want and need in a wing sauce.

Legend Larry's Teriyaki Wings

Asian-Inspired Wing Greatness

You could sure put this sauce on a stir fry, or use it as a dipping sauce for nuggets. Or on a grilled chicken sandwich. But for me, Legend Larry’s Teriyaki wing sauce is a hands-down true winner on wings. And it’s one of my wife’s favorites too. That says a lot. She’s picky about her wing sauces, and she’d pick Legend Larry’s any day of the week.

Frank’s RedHot Mild Buffalo Wings

Frank’s RedHot Mild Buffalo wing sauce wings are just flat-out some of the best I’ve ever had. This is the kind of sauce I’d serve at a get-together. Not only would I not have to worry about serving something too spicy for my guests, I’d know without a doubt that everyone would enjoy them. Fantastic classic Buffalo flavor in every single bite. This sauce makes for a great wing experience and is proof that not every Buffalo wing sauce has to be crazy hot.

Frank's RedHot Mild Buffalo Wings

Great Flavor Without A Lot Of Heat

What would make Frank’s RedHot mild Buffalo wing sauce wings better? Yeah, nothing. I wouldn’t change the heat level. I wouldn’t change the flavor. And honestly, any dipping sauce, like Ranch or blue cheese, is purely optional with this sauce in my opinion.

Remember that if you have to refrigerate your open bottle of wing sauce to let it sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes before using. You don’t want to ‘shock’ hot, just-cooked wings with a cold sauce.

Chef Hak’s Buffalo Wing Sauce Wings

For the record, I apparently live in a cave. Where there’s no news from the outside. So I hadn’t heard of Chef Hak before I picked up a bottle of Chef Hak’s Buffalo wing sauce. Since then I’ve found that he’s a health-conscious person, with a large line of prepared foods and sauces. And it shows that he is focused on flavor, too. Because this is one tasty sauce. You’d might not even know or think about that other stuff. And don’t worry, it’s a nice middle-of-the-road-spicy sauce. Not too mellow and not too over-the-top.

Chef Hak's Buffalo Wings

One Tasty Sauce

Chef Hak’s Buffalo wing sauce is a tad bit on the thin side. Not so thin that it won’t stick to your wings. But, if you like your wings super sauce I’d suggest that you have bit of extra sauce in a lil bowl on the side for dipping your wings if you get the urge.

June Moon Alabama White Sauce Wings

I’ve had a few store-bought Alabama white sauces. And I’ve made a few variations from scratch. Needless to say, I’m a fan of the concept. June Moon Alabama white sauce wings are another example of two great things that were meant for each other: a creamy, mayonnaise-based sauce that is nice and tangy, and chicken wings. Oh and it does have a slight spiciness to it too. But not too much.

June Moon Alabama White Sauce Wings

The Perfect Balance

June Moon Alabama white sauce wings aren’t too mayonnaise-y. Or vinegary. Speaking from experience, there’s nothing more disappointing that getting all excited about wings only to have a sauce that is watery or too vinegary. Not a worry with this sauce. I found the balance to be perfectly finger-licking good.

This is also a great sauce for dipping pretzels.

Remember that if you have to refrigerate your open bottle of wing sauce to let it sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes before using. You don’t want to ‘shock’ hot, just-cooked wings with a cold sauce.

Frank’s RedHot Garlic Buffalo Wing Sauce Wings

I want to personally thank everyone that had anything at all to do with Frank’s RedHot Garlic Buffalo wing sauce. From the ingredients, to the packaging, to getting it on my grocery store’s shelves, you’re all heroes! Ok, so maybe that’s a bit much, but I’m a huge garlic fan and oh boy does this sauce ever pack in the garlic flavor. All in a (of course) a fantastic traditional Buffalo sauce. I cannot get enough of this. There’s no lack of flavor (and a bit of heat) here.

Frank's RedHot Garlic Buffalo Wings

Garlic. And Lots of It.

This is the part where I stress how much garlic flavor is in Frank’s RedHot Garlic Buffalo wing sauce. Or I was going to. But why? You’re here because you were looking for a garlic wing sauce. You didn’t Google ‘I want a lame, flavorless sauce’ to get here. Or at least I hope you didn’t! No, you’re here for the same reason as I am: to celebrate great garlic and Buffalo flavors on wings!

Also try some Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Ranch dry wings! They’re great too!

Duck Fat Chicken Wings using the Vortex

Chicken wings cooked on a charcoal grill (I love my trusty Weber grills!) using a Vortex are the best. Not only do you get great flavor and crunchy skin, you get a light (or heavy.. It’s up to you, you can control it!) smoky flavor. You can’t go wrong with them. But you can make them even better using duck fat spray. What a difference it makes, too. They are better tasting and crunchier. These duck fat chicken wings using the Vortex are the decadent wings that dreams are made of.

Duck Fat Chicken Wings using the Vortex

Duck Fat And The Vortex Made For Great Wings

The Vortex enables you to get super-hot temperatures on a charcoal grill. That heat not only cooks them perfectly, it gives them a crunchier skin. You just cannot beat duck fat chicken wings using the Vortex.

Adding duck fat spray not only helps with getting that fantastic crunchy it skin, it also adds a fantastic different flavor than if you’d used vegetable or olive oil instead. It makes a world of difference.

  • Place the Vortex into the center of your grill and add in the charcoal. Open the bottom vents on your grill by 1/3.
  • Light a charcoal chimney full of charcoal. Alternatively you can fill your Vortex with charcoal and light them inside the unit.
  • Let the charcoal get fully ashed over then add to the Vortex.
  • If you want extra smoke flavor, place a small wood chunk or two over the center of the Vortex and let it ignite and smoke.
  • Place the wings into a large bowl. Spray lightly with the duck fat while tossing. Don't get them soaking wet, you're looking for a light coating. Think 'squirt squirt' and not 'fence painting'.
  • Add the chicken as shown in the picture above.
  • Close the grill and cook for 45 minutes. If you are using a large charcoal grill (22" or bigger) you might want to rotate the lid 90 degrees every 15 minutes. I haven't found this to be necessary on smaller (18" and 14") grills.
  • Transfer wings to a bowl and toss with your favorite seasoning and sauce as desired.

Notes

If you’re saucing your wings with a refrigerated sauce, make sure you bring it to room temperature first or warm it over medium heat.

Cholula Caliente Wing Sauce Wings

These Cholula Caliente wing sauce wings are something special. Traditional Buffalo wing sauce needed a south-of-the-border twist, and this is it. Nicely spicy, it has a great combination of peppers that make for one of the best tasting sauces I’ve had. If you’re a fan of Cholula’s hot sauce, you’ll be an even bigger fan of this wing sauce.

Cholula Caliente Wings

A Great Tasting Sauce

It’d be an understatement to say I’m a big lover of Cholula’s Caliente wing sauce. Ditto their other wing sauce that I’ve tried, Cholula Mexicali. And like any Cholula sauce, wing or hot, it’s good on just about anything. Like nachos. Or tacos. You name it. I don’t use it sparingly, I load up and then I add some more. No such thing as too much of this sauce.

And, according to my wife, the bottle is pretty.

Remember that if you have to refrigerate your open bottle of wing sauce to let it sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes before using. You don’t want to ‘shock’ hot, just-cooked wings with a cold sauce.
