Sweet and Tangy Heinz 57 Wings

Welcome to one of my all-time favorite homemade wing sauces. Easy as heck to make. Delicious as can be. These sweet and tangy Heinz 57 wings were beyond finger-licking good. They were plate-licking good. I’d make these again in a heartbeat. A little tangy. A little sweet. They hit the spot!

Sweet and Tangy Heinz 57 Wings

A Sauce For The Entire Family

I do sometimes post some fairly spicy homemade wing sauces here on For The Wing. This isn’t one of them. I think these sweet and tangy Heinz 57 wings would be great to serve at a party or picnic or family get-together. No one’s gonna scream that they are spicy. But they will tell you they loved them.

But…. You could kick them up a bit if you want. They are on the sweet side. A bit. And just barely tangy. No reason you couldn’t sneak a little hot sauce in there. Maybe make a special batch for yourself and your heat-loving friends.

Tapatio hot sauce and a few other ingredients make for a spicy wing sauce. Try some of my tangy Tapatio barbecue wings too!

Texa-Lina Chicken Wings

Could this be the last wing post here on For The Wing? Have I reached the top? The pinnacle of wing equivalent of Mt Everest? Is there no place to go from here? Well, let me tell you fellow wing-lovers, it’s close. Darned close. Because these Texa-Lina chicken wings are fantastic. I mean super-fantastic. This sauce is nothing but perfect. Oh yeah, there’s a bit of sweet. And there’s a bit of heat. With the perfect consistency. It’s a combination of Texas-style and Carolina-style BBQ sauces, all in a sauce that makes wings dance!

Texa-Lina Chicken Wings

Steven Raichlen For The Win

The idea behind this sauce came from Steven Raichlen’s book, Barbecue Sauces, Rubs, and Marinades. It’s packed with great recipes, as you can imagine. Over 200 of them. So it makes sense that these Texa-Lina chicken wings were so good. The sauce is amazing. It started out as a vinegar and ketchup BBQ sauce and ended up on my wings. And that’s right where it belongs! Ok, it would be great on ribs and pulled pork and anything else, too!

I went with air-fried wings. Doesn’t really matter how you decide to cook your wings. I have a full guide for using pretty much any device you can imagine to make great wings, over and over. Check it out!

TGI Friday’s Honey BBQ Snack Wings

I don’t just make fresh wings at home. I think it’s important to try other wings. Like these TGI Friday’s Honey BBQ snack wings. I know that not everyone wants to grab a pack of fresh wings from the store and go thru the process of prepping and cooking them. It’s a bit of work. And if you have a house full of guests you don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen. But you also don’t want to serve bad wings. I can say these are actually pretty good wings. They are definitely some of the best frozen wings I’ve found.

TGI Friday's Honey BBQ Snack Wings

Tasty. And Easy.

I liked the sauce on these TGI Friday’s Honey BBQ snack wings. It’s lightly sweet and a pretty good BBQ sauce on its own. There’s plenty of sauce on each wing too. I didn’t run into a case where one wing was sauced and one wasn’t. The coating on the wings is good too. The wings are reasonably meaty, and I found the wings to be pretty consistent in quality. I can’t say I’ve always had that same experience with other frozen wing brands.

I cooked my wings in the oven. I’m not a big fan of microwaved wings even though the packaging has instructions for cooking them there. The oven gives you just a bit of a crunch to the wings and I like that. Plus they’re easy. Just make sure you use some non-stick spray on the foil before adding the wings. They do like to stick a bit.

Also try some Texas Pete’s extra mild Buffalo wings.

Tangy Tapatio Barbecue Wings

I love traditional Buffalo-style chicken wings. And I love traditional barbecued chicken slathered in sauce. So why not combine my two loves into a single bite? These tangy Tapatio barbecue wings do that and more. The sauce is spot-on crazy good. Not too ketchupy. Not too vinegary. It has just the right kick with just the right consistency. Tapatio is one of my go-to all-time favorite hot sauces. It makes for great wings!

Tangy Tapatio Barbecue Wings

Kinda Different. And Definitely Delicious.

These tangy Tapatio barbecue wings are quickly becoming a staple in our household. The sauce is so easy to make and all of the ingredients are something we always have on hand. As an added bonus, the sauce is also fantastic on grilled chicken, hamburgers and smoked pulled pork and brisket. It’s a great all-around sauce.

Tangy Wings

Oh my goodness do I ever love this tangy wing sauce. Simple, no-frills ingredients go together in no time. The result is a kicked-up Buffalo wing sauce. Just the right amount of kick. Not too much vinegar. And the perfect consistency. The sauce sticks to the wings without being gloppy. This sauce is different in a lot of good ways. Make a double batch, you’ll need it!

Tangy Wings

No Frills. But Oh What A Thrill!

If you want your tangy wing sauce to have a bit more kick you can add a few pinches of cayenne. Or a few good shakes of hot sauce. But don’t go crazy with the heat. This sauce is pretty perfect as it is. It already gets a bit of heat from the Buffalo sauce. You could of course just use a hotter Buffalo sauce if you want!

I store my leftover homemade sauces in squeeze bottles. If refrigerated, I set them out an hour before using so they come to room temperature. You don’t want to put cold sauce on hot wings!

Thai Place Wing Sauce Wings

This right here is why I love (absolutely love!) buying wing sauces from small, non-chain (or at least, regional chain) restaurants and bars. That’s where I often find the best flavors. These Thai Place wing sauce wings are a huge winner. I mean huge. All from a Thai restaurant in Pittsburgh, that has, sadly, closed, but you can still find their wing sauce in stores! I found it in Jungle Jim’s outside of Cincinnati. And boy am I ever glad that I did! This sauce is has hints of soy sauce. It’s sweet for sure. And there’s a little heat kind just hovering around in the background. Not upfront so it’ll bite you, but it’s there.

Thai Place Wing Sauce Wings

Make Some Wings!

There’s no need to over-complicate this situation. Make some wings. Doesn’t really matter how. I went with air-fried wings. You can go with baked. Grilled. Whatever. Even store-bought frozen ones (plain, of course). Just get ’em done and get them in this sauce. You’re gonna enjoy these Thai Place wing sauce wings no matter how the wings are made. The sauce is definitely the star of this show.

Make sure you get extra bottles of the sauce. It’s great on smoked (or grilled) ribs too!

Torchbearer Buffalo Wing Sauce Wings

This Buffalo wing sauce is a little tamer in the heat department, but still oh soooo good. This was my wife’s absolute favorite sauce. And her favorite wings of all time. Of all time! Man, that says a lot when you consider how many wings get eaten around here. My wife is definitely a big fan of Torchbearer Buffalo wings!

This is the second flavor of Torchbearer wing sauce that I’ve tried. The first, chipotle, was beyond crazy good with fantastic flavor and heat.

Torchbearer Buffalo Wings

Great Tasting Heat In Every Bite

I coated these Torchbearer Buffalo wing sauce wings first (ala Hooter’s wings) and then deep fried them. Tossed them in Torchbearer sauce and chowed down. And kept chowing. Oh, and don’t waste your time with those scrawny frozen uncooked wings that look like they came off crickets and not chickens. Get the big, fresh family packs.

Get yourself some of this sauce. You will not be sorry.

Remember that if you have to refrigerate your open bottle of wing sauce to let it sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes before using. You don’t want to ‘shock’ hot, just-cooked wings with a cold sauce.

Torchbearer Mild Buffalo Wing Sauce Wings

If you’ve never had a wing sauce from Torchbearer you need to get to it. Time’s wasting and there’s no time like now to enjoy something totally different. Pick up a bottle and check out the ingredients. Torchbearer mild Buffalo wing sauce contains Mandarin orange, tomato, carrot, onion and a whole lot of other natural things. Didn’t expect that did you? Neither did I the first time, and I loved it. This sauce like their others is different, wonderfully tasty and great on wings.

Torchbearer Mild Buffalo Wings

Just The Right Amount Of Vinegary Goodness

Torchbearer mild Buffalo wing sauce is not overly vinegary. It’s not super spicy, but it does have a little kick to it. Nothing to be afraid of. This is a very tasty sauce that isn’t like the traditional version but might even be better!

Torchbearer Chipotle Wing Sauce Wings

I’ve been contemplating how I would start this post for two days now. Not because I was searching for what to write, but because any time I started thinking about these Torchbearer Chipotle wing sauce wings I got hungry and had to go make something to eat.

We were in Gatlinburg, TN, not too long ago. I stopped in to All Sauced Up, a little gourmet grocery store (full of nice folk) on main (Parkway) street in downtown Gatlinburg. So I grabbed two bottles of wing sauce from Torchbearer Sauces, one spicy chipotle and one Buffalo wing. For one thing, I noticed was that both sauces were made from stuff I wouldn’t expect in a wing sauce, like mandarin oranges. Say what?

Well, say hello to absolutely unbelievably good. I coated these wings with Torchbearer chipotle wings sauce. Yep, it’s spicy. All in all, it’s got some of the best heat I’ve had. Not in-your-face-crying-tears-of-sadness heat, but good heat with fantastic flavor. The sauce comes out thick and sticks to your wings. Nope, it doesn’t roll off and create a sauce lake in your plate (or basket). It’s just spot-on great sauce.

Torchbearer Chipotle Wings

Spicy And Delicious

I could not get enough of these wings. Basically, I coated them first and then deep fried them. Tossed them in Torchbearer chipotle wing sauce and chowed down. So, go get you some of this sauce! You will not be sorry. At all. Oh, and the Torchbearer web site also recommends using this sauce on pork chops and in stir fry. Indeed, you don’t get that from any ole normal wing sauce.

Remember that if you have to refrigerate your open bottle of wing sauce to let it sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes before using. You don’t want to ‘shock’ hot, just-cooked wings with a cold sauce.
