Legend Larry’s makes some absolutely terrific wing sauces. I’ve enjoyed them all, again and again. Their Teriyaki wing sauce, though, is something above and beyond absolutely terrific. This is a big favorite in our house. We always look forward to a batch of wings covered in this sauce. It’s nice and thick, but not gloppy. It’s likely sweet, but not cloyingly so. It has that traditional teriyaki flavor, but it’s not so strong that it overpowers your senses. It’s the perfect balance of everything you want and need in a wing sauce.
Asian-Inspired Wing Greatness
You could sure put this sauce on a stir fry, or use it as a dipping sauce for nuggets. Or on a grilled chicken sandwich. But for me, Legend Larry’s Teriyaki wing sauce is a hands-down true winner on wings. And it’s one of my wife’s favorites too. That says a lot. She’s picky about her wing sauces, and she’d pick Legend Larry’s any day of the week.
I’ve had my share of teriyaki-flavored wing sauces. There’s something about that combination of soy, garlic, ginger and a little sweetness that really makes for some fantastic wings. But, I’ve never, ever had something like Wing It teriyaki wings. Yeah, classic tastes, but my goodness me is it dark. You know there’s no skimping on ingredients in the bottle when you pick it up. You can’t see through it. Heck, hold it up to the sun. Nope, nada. This is one seriously thick, seriously serious teriyaki sauce.
Tasty Teriyaki. And More Tasty Teriyaki.
This is easily one of our top favorite sweet wing sauces. Wing It Teriyaki wings just cannot be beat. I like making a batch of some hot wings, then have a few of these wings as ‘dessert’. How could you ever go wrong with a wing dessert?
This sauce is also fantastic on grilled or smoke ribs. Just put it on at the very end of the cooking to let it set up. Not too long. It’s got plenty of sugar in it, and you don’t want it to over-caramelize (er… burn).
Oh sure, I love spicy, hot chicken wings. But I’m also a big fan of more savory wings. In fact, the Buffalo Wild Wings Teriyaki wings are my wife’s and my favorite. We always order them (though she often opts for the boneless wings while I go for the bone-in versions).
A Long-Time Favorite Of Ours
Buffalo Wild Wings (of course) sells their sauces in their stores. They’re quite reasonably priced, and when you order 3 (or in my case, a lot more than 3) you can get them in this fancy carrying box. I think all of their flavors are available to go, except the current ‘special’ sauce, which is unfortunate because the flavor-of-the-month not too long ago was a crazy good chipotle cherry sting sauce. I’d drink that stuff with a straw. So go get you some Buffalo Wild Wings Teriyaki wing sauce today!
Whoa back up the truck to teriyaki yumminess! We both loved the heck out Moore’s Asian Teriyaki wing sauce. Though the bottle says you can use the sauce on anything from vegetables to stir-fry to whatever, the sauce was amazing on wings. Not overly sweet as teriyaki sauce can sometimes be. Not overloaded with soy sauce or ginger. Just flat-out perfect teriyaki flavors.
Don’t Drown Your Wings
I made sure to not overly sauce my wings. Some places you buy wings at like to bury their wings in sauce, usually to hide skimpy thin wings. Not me. I use the big wings and I want to taste the wings too, not just the sauce. Even if that sauce is delicious like Moore’s Asian Teriyaki wing sauce!
Remember that if you have to refrigerate your open bottle of wing sauce to let it sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes before using. You don’t want to ‘shock’ hot, just-cooked wings with a cold sauce.
Oh, deliciously sweet, sticky, Asian-inspired wing, how do I love you!? I looked like a bulldog with a pork chop when I started chowing down on some Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet Teriyaki wings. Heck, you’d think I hadn’t eaten in a week. I couldn’t help myself. Yeah, there are a ton of things you can use SBRs sauce (and marinade) on, but for me, wings is it. Done.
So Sweet And So Good
Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet Teriyaki wing sauce doesn’t pack any heat. It’s sweet, just like the name says. But, if you’re looking for that extra little something, a little kick, add some hot sauce. I wouldn’t go crazy with it though. This sauce is perfect as it is and a welcomed change from Buffalo-style wing sauces.
Remember that if you have to refrigerate your open bottle of wing sauce to let it sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes before using. You don’t want to ‘shock’ hot, just-cooked wings with a cold sauce.
I had no idea. None. I picked up a bottle of Kentuckyaki sauce at the Kentucky Artisan Center because it seemed and looked different. Unique. I was worried it might be too bourbon-y. Would I like it on wings? Well I gotta say, this sauce makes for some of the best wings I’ve ever had. Slightly sweet. A little hint of teriyaki. Garlic and ginger. Sounded Asian-inspired, but with a Kentucky twist: a splash of bourbon. And just the right amount, too. This is the perfect sauce, and Kentuckyaki sauce wings are the perfect wings! Shout out to the fine folks at Bourbon Barrel foods. Great job!
A Great Sauce For Other Dishes
You can sure bet that this sauce is great on a whole lot of other things. I’d tell you what, but honestly, I’m going to use the entire bottle making Kentuckyaki sauce wings. And next time I’m on I-75 in the area of Berea, KY, I’m going to stop at the artisan center again and pick up some more. And I’m going to make more of these wings. I always stop there when I’m in the area. They always have unique foods and crafts. And a great little café too!
Go Easy, My Friend
I’m always leery of tossing deep-fried wings in sauce. You have to be gentle or that crunchy coating you worked so hard to get comes flying off. I recommend either drizzling the wings first and gently stirring with a spatula or brushing the sauce on. You can also just serve the sauce on the side for dipping.
Heat 2-3" of oil in a deep-fryer or Dutch oven. While it's warming up, make the sauce.
In a medium sauce pan over medium-high heat, add the Kentuckyaki sauce, pineapple juice, brown sugar and hot sauce. Stir.
In a small glass or bowl, mix the corn starch and water together. I like to use a fork for this. Make sure you get them well-combined.
Let the sauce come to a boil. Whisk in the cornstarch mixture. Continue whisking while the sauce thickens, another 2 minutes.
Remove from heat and let sit while you make the wings. Note: If the sauce gets too thick as it sets, whisk in a teaspoon or two of warm water to thin it.
For the wings
Place the flour in a large bowl. Stir in the salt and pepper.
Working in batches if needed, add the wings to the flour and coat well. Turn them several times, making sure you get the wings covered in flour.
Shake off any excess flour and add to the hot oil. Deep fry 7-10 minutes or until the wings hit 165 F. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate or wire rack over a baking sheet to drain.
Transfer wings to a large bowl. Drizzle with the sauce. Using a spatula, turn the wings to coat well.
Man, these Teriyaki dry wings were so good. They disappeared in no time at all. It’s amazing the great flavors you can get with so few ingredients and in no time at all. You can’t beat these wings. The star of the show is the dipping sauce. If you’ve never had dry wings now is the time to try them. Having the sauce on the side means you get to enjoy the best of both worlds. Nicely spiced, tasty dry wings and a great sauce.
Delicious Asian Flavors In A Dry Wing
I used my Char-Broil The Big Easy TRU-Infrared Oil-less Turkey Fryer to cook Teriyaki wings, but you can use a regular grill or even bake them in the oven. Or however you want to cook them. Just serve them while they’re still hot and you’ll enjoy some of the best wings around!
I store my leftover homemade sauces in squeeze bottles. If refrigerated, I set them out an hour before using so they come to room temperature. You don’t want to put cold sauce on hot wings!
Yowsa. Now we’re talking about some seriously devour-worthy wings. These air fryer maple wings are beyond finger-lickingly good. As soon as I took my first bite I instantly regretted not making more wings and sauce. The wings are your standard air fryer wings. A little seasoning and cooked until the skin is crispy. The sauce, though, is the star of the show. The right sweetness. The right umami thing. And just a kiss of heat. These are great wings!
Step Up Your Teriyaki Game
You can use whatever teriyaki sauce you like to make these air fryer maple wings. But for me, my go-to teriyaki sauce is from the fine folks over at Bourbon Barrel Food. They have two versions actually. The Kentuckyaki sauce is a wonderfully bourbon-infused sauce that has such a great, deep flavor. It’s great anywhere I need a teriyaki sauce. And of course their spicy version is … spicier! It also makes for a great sauce for these wings!
