Thai Place Wings

This right here is why I love (absolutely love!) buying wing sauces from small, non-chain (or at least, regional chain) restaurants and bars. That’s where I often find the best flavors. These Thai Place wings are a huge winner. I mean huge. All from a Thai restaurant in Pittsburgh, that has, sadly, closed, but you can still find their wing sauce in stores! I found it in Jungle Jim’s outside of Cincinnati. And boy am I ever glad that I did! This sauce is has hints of soy sauce. It’s sweet for sure. And there’s a little heat kind just hovering around in the background. Not upfront so it’ll bite you, but it’s there.

Thai Place Wings

Make Some Wings!

There’s no need to over-complicate this situation. Make some wings. Doesn’t really matter how. I went with air-fried wings. You can go with baked. Grilled. Whatever. Even store-bought frozen ones (plain, of course). Just get ’em done and get them in this sauce. You’re gonna enjoy these Thai Place wings no matter how the wings are made. The sauce is definitely the star of this show.

Make sure you get extra bottles of the sauce. It’s great on smoked (or grilled) ribs too!

Market District Thai Style Sweet Chili Wings

My wife is a big fan of any chili sauce-based wing sauce. Actually, ‘big fan’ is an understatement. I grabbed a bottle of the Thai Style Sweet Chili wing sauce from Market District knowing that she’d like it just from looking at the bottle. I could see chili sauce with peppers inside. Well, she didn’t just like this sweet, garlicky sauce. She absolutely loved it! This is easily one of the best sweeter sauces you can find.

Market District Thai Style Sweet Chili Wings

A Wonderfully Sweet Asian-Inspired Sauce

Market District’s Thai Style Sweet Chili wings are definitely sweet. And not spicy at all. Neither of us got a sense of heat from it. But boy, it is delicious on wings. I admit to putting more of this sauce on my wings than I normally would. I am just as addicted to it as my wife is. It’s very much a finger-licking good sauce. If you’re looking for something sweet, this is it.

Remember that if you have to refrigerate your open bottle of wing sauce to let it sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes before using. You don’t want to ‘shock’ hot, just-cooked wings with a cold sauce.

Market District Sweet Honey Garlic Wings

“You should’ve bought more of this sauce. A lot more.” Those were the first words out of my wife’s mouth after taking her first bite of the Market District Sweet Honey Garlic wings I made. As always, she was right. I shouldn’t have brought home just one bottle. It didn’t last long at all. We both enjoyed this sweet, thick sauce that is absolutely packed with the perfect amount of garlic. Yep, lots of garlic, just like we like it. A small hint of soy sauce and ginger round out what is a great sweet Asian-inspired wing sauce.

Market District Sweet Honey Garlic Wings

Plenty Of Garlicky Sweetness

These Market District Sweet Honey Garlic wings are like they say, sweet, without any spicy kick. A little garlic ‘punch’ is all the kick you’re going to get. And plenty of sweet, finger-lickingly good flavor. If you’re looking for a great alternative to your usual Buffalo-inspired spicy wing sauce, this is it.

Country Bob’s Hot Honey Buffalo Wings

This is not that sauce that was too spicy. And it’s not that sauce that was too sweet. This sauce is spot-on in both the heat and sweet departments. I love it. A lot. My Country Bob’s Hot Honey Buffalo wing made me happy. Super happy, in fact. There’s nothing I didn’t like about this sauce. Except that I didn’t buy enough of it.

Country Bob's Hot Honey Buffalo Wings

The Bees Knees

Sometimes I run across a wing sauce that contains honey that doesn’t really do it for me. I dunno exactly what it is, but there’ll be something, a little flavor thing, with the honey that throws me off. Not with these Country Bob’s Hot Honey Buffalo wings. The flavor of honey was perfect for me. Not too strong. But noticeable. In a very good way.

So just make yourself some wings and sauce them up. No need to get fancy here, unless you want to. The wings can be as simple as salt and pepper and 20ish minutes in an air fryer. Or a little more, like battered and deep-fried until golden brown. Whatever works for you. Just get some sauce and get to eatin’!

Country Bob’s Roasted Pineapple and Black Pepper Wings

I saw ‘roasted pineapple and black pepper’ and thought to myself, man, I bet some Country Bob’s Roasted Pineapple and Black Pepper wings would be crazy good. And they were good. I had no problem putting them away, that’s for sure. But were they crazy good? Not quite, but close. I coulda used more pineapple flavor and more pepper. But I did finish the whole bottle of sauce….

Country Bob's Roasted Pineapple and Black Pepper Wings

Nice ‘N Thick

My Country Bob’s Roasted Pineapple and Black Pepper wings didn’t wow me. Oh, how I wanted to taste some roasted pineapple. I did but it was kinda hiding there. It did add a little nice sweetness. The pepper was more noticeable but over-the-top. The sauce was definitely the right thickness. Perfect I’d say. It stuck to my wings without being gloppy.

Country Bob’s Smoked Garlic and Brown Sugar Wings

If I have the same wing sauce four days in a row you can darn sure bet it’s a sauce that I love. I just could not get enough of Country Bob’s Smoked Garlic and Brown Sugar wings. I picked up a variety pack of Country Bob’s wing sauces not knowing just how much this sauce would quickly become one of my all-time favorites. The garlic has a rather savory taste to it. Not harsh or overly garlicky. The brown sugar helps, adding a touch of sweetness. This is a thinner, tomato and vinegar sauce that is just great on wings.

Country Bob's Smoked Garlic and Brown Sugar Wings

Get Some Wings

It doesn’t really matter what wings you use when you make some Country Bob’s Smoked Garlic and Brown Sugar wings. Of course, you don’t want bad wings. But deep-fried, air-fried, baked… grilled… doesn’t really matter. Even those frozen ones that are already battered (don’t grab the flavored ones!). You’re after this sauce. Don’t use wings that’ll fight it. Nice, plain ole wings will do just fine.

  • Lightly spray the basket of your air fryer with non-stick spray. Preheat per manufacturer's recommendation to 350 F.
  • Lightly salt the wings on all sides.
  • Add the wings to the basket (be careful it's hot!).

Notes

Note: If your wing sauce is refrigerated, set it out on the countertop before starting the wings so that it warms up a bit. You don’t want to put cold sauce on hot wings.
Note: The full 30 minute cook time is for large, meaty wings. If your wings are a bit thinner (er… scrawny) back the times down to 10/10/4 minutes instead of 12/12/6 minutes.

Soy-Ginger Glazed Air Fryer Wings

8? 12? 18? How many of these soy-ginger glazed air fryer wings could I eat? Well, I’m not telling. But the answer is definitely ‘a lot’. The sauce on these wings is sweet, salty, savory… and slightly citrusy. No heat here. But plenty of amazing sweetness that is beyond finger-licking good. I actually made this sauce for roasted Brussels sprouts, but after tasting it I realized that its true calling was on wings. And boy, was I ever right!

Soy-Ginger Glazed Air Fryer Wings

Yesterday Seems So Far Away

You have to make the glaze for these soy-ginger glazed air fryer wings the day before you plan on devouring them. Don’t realize 10 minutes before it’s time to eat that you need to make it. That’s too late. Do it the day before and refrigerate it overnight. You’ll then have the perfect glaze. Thick. Like molasses. Delicious. And oh so worth it.

The Air Fryer? Again?

No, no, you don’t really have to make these wings in the air fryer. Make the glaze the day ahead. Then make the wings however you want. I went air fryer because that’s my go-to less-mess technique. Grilled, deep-fried, baked… doesn’t really matter. Just make some wings your way. Then glaze them!

Need Heat?

If you’re a gotta-have-it-spicy person, add a few pinches of red pepper flakes to the glaze while it’s simmering happily away. Let it flavor the sauce. Don’t go crazy with it, though. A little is ok. A lot? You’ll overwhelm the delicious sauce.

For the wings

Instructions

For the glaze (make the day ahead!)

  • Combine the brown sugar, sugar and soy sauce in a small saucepan over medium-high heat.
  • Bring to a simmer and continue simmering, stirring often, until the sauce reduces by one half. The sauce will thicken somewhat and will continue thickening as it cools later.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the fresh ginger.
  • Let cool then place into a resealable container in the fridge overnight.
  • Bring to room temperature before serving. I set the container out while I prepare the Brussels sprouts.

For the wings

  • Note: Before starting, remove the glaze from the fridge so it can come to room temperature while you cook the wings.
  • Lightly spray the basket of your air fryer with non-stick spray. Preheat per manufacturer’s recommendation.
  • Sprinkle over the wings with salt and pepper and toss to coat.
  • Note: You'll have to work in batches to cook all of the wings unless you have a super-large air-fryer. Do not overlap the wings in the basket or they will not cook evenly.
  • Add the wings to the basket (be careful it’s hot!). If you have trouble fitting them without overlapping, stand the drumettes along the sides of the basket.
  • Cook at 360 F for 12 minutes for large wings, 10 minutes for smaller ones.
  • Carefully flip the wings (rotate the drumettes if they are standing) and cook another 12 minutes again (10 minutes for smaller wings) at 375 F.
  • Flip the wings one last time. Increase the temperature to 390 F and cook another 6 minutes (4 minutes for smaller wings).
  • Remove and toss or brush with the glaze.  Click here for our guide on how to sauce your wings.

Notes

For a spicy version add a few good pinches of red pepper flake to the glaze while it is reducing.

Baked Maple Glazed Wings

I admit it, I do sometimes dream of deep-fried chicken wings. I don’t dream about baked chicken wings. Or I didn’t until I made these baked maple glazed wings. I didn’t think the flavors of the simple seasoning and the easy glaze would work. I didn’t think I’d like them. In reality, I didn’t like them. I loved them. These are some of the tastiest wings I’ve had. I’ll make these again and again.

Baked Maple Glazed Wings

Flavor Galore

These baked maple glazed wings would be perfect for a party. You could make a big batch. They aren’t spicy, so they won’t scare off anyone. They’re lightly sweet. And they’re different. The oregano and nutmeg make for a fantastic marriage with the reduced balsamic vinegar and maple syrup. Honestly, I would make a double batch of the sauce. What’s the worst thing that can happen? That you’ll have some leftover for another batch of wings?!??!

Baked Maple Wings

These baked maple wings are a fantastic wing for a party. Any party. Or the big game. They are easy to make and come out tasting absolutely fantastic. If you make the recipe as stated the wings are slightly sweet, with a slight hint of spiciness. They are impossible to stop eating. The skin doesn’t get crunchy but it has a nice bite to it. Not ‘weird’ like some baked wings can get.

Baked Maple Wings

Make It Several Ways

The beauty of the recipe for these baked maple wings is that you can make a minor change or two and have slightly different wings. That’s what makes these so great for a party. You can make several batches at once, letting your guests decide what variation they prefer.

For a spicy version add more pepper flake or add some hot sauce. For a more Buffalo-inspired version, add a cup of Buffalo sauce. The sauce recipe is very flexible.

Twist And Turn

As easy as these wings are to make, make sure you don’t ignore the instructions to turn them every 20 minutes during the first part of the cook. During the second part, where you’re cooking them using higher heat, definitely don’t ignore the wings for long. They’ll get golden brown quick. A little color is great. But don’t burn them!

Deep-Fried Lemon Pepper Sweet Wings

I’ve made my share of deep-fried wings. But I don’t think I’ve had anything like these deep-fried lemon pepper sweet wings. Like the name says, they’re kinda sweet. Not super-sweet, but you’ll notice. Lemon pepper, well, that’s common on wings and a flavor I love. The combination of the sweetness, the citrus and the crunchy breading made for a different, enjoyable wing experience. I liked these. They were new to me and a pleasant change from my ‘usual’ deep-fried wings.

Deep-Fried Lemon Pepper Sweet Wings

Crunchy Yummy

The breading on these deep-fried lemon pepper sweet wings is nice and crunchy. I like my wings crunchy. Deep-fried or not. I like that crunch. The breading is packed with flavor too. It’s not just flour and salt and pepper. It brings more of that lemon pepper flavor to the party. It’s not crazy citrusy, but you get the flavor.

To offset the sweetness of these wings I served a little spicy Buffalo wing sauce on the side in place of my usual blue cheese dressing. I didn’t go crazy dunking my wings into it, but every once in a while I’d sneak a piece over and get some heat on it.
