Pineapple Glazed Wings

Yowsa. I was looking for a great, homemade Asian-inspired wing sauce and did I ever find it. These pineapple glazed wings were absolutely fantastic. I could not stop eating them, and more, I couldn’t stop licking the sauce off my fingers. The sauce is a little sweet, but not overly sweet. It has a wonderful hint of pineapple, (thanks to real juice!) which I love. Add a little garlic and ginger and you’ve got a great wing sauce!

Fruity Sweetness In Every Bite

The sauce on these pineapple glazed wings isn’t just great on wings. Nope. It also makes for the perfect glaze on grilled pork tenderloin or smoked pork ribs. Or chicken. It’s also great as a dipping sauce for chicken nuggets.

Kick It Up. If You Want To.

If you like your sauce to have a bit of a kick to it, add some dried red pepper flake. You’ll get a sauce that looks similar to a chili sauce and is just as yummy!

I store my leftover homemade sauces in squeeze bottles. If refrigerated, I set them out an hour before using so they come to room temperature. You don’t want to put cold sauce on hot wings!

Raspberry Chipotle Wings

Oh, goodness me! Raspberry chipotle wings are my newest food addiction. The sauce is just crazy good. Great berry flavor and a nice helping of heat. And a little bit of sweet to temper that kick just a bit. I used great fresh local raspberries, but frozen would work just fine too.

One Great Sauce

The raspberry chipotle sauce would also be great on a grilled pork tenderloin, or just grilled chicken. I wouldn’t be afraid to add a bit more of the chipotle if you’re into heat like I am. Just make sure that when you strain the sauce you don’t let any seeds through. It takes a little work but those seeds aren’t something you want in the sauce.

Raspberry Chipotle Wings

  • 3-4 pounds chicken wings flats and drumettes separated, tips saved to make stock

For the sauce

Instructions

For the sauce

  • Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add the onion and saute until starting to soften, about 5 minutes.
  • Add all of the remaining ingredients.
  • Bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer and continue simmering until reduced by half, about 15 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Transfer sauce to a blender and puree until smooth.
  • Strain through a fine mesh sieve, pressing to remove the solids.
  • If sauce is too thin return it to the saucepan over low heat while cooking the wings. Do not let the sauce burn, though.

Salt and Pepper Wings

Oh my goodness. I’m a big-time chicken wing fan. Any time, anywhere, I’ll eat wings. With darn near anything on them. But sesame oil infused with garlic, onion and jalapeno? I mean, it sounded good but not something I’d ever had on wings. And wow! Was I ever surprised as to just how great these salt and pepper wings were.

Oh you get the salt and lots of black pepper, but then you get this wonderful Asian-inspired flavor that is impossible to stop eating. The sauce is the perfect balance between sharp sesame oil, spicy pepper and garlic and onion. No one flavor overpowers the rest. It’s very, very good.

Next time I fry a chicken I’m coating it in the same sauce as I used for these salt and pepper wings. And next time I make these salt and pepper wings I might double the sauce because it’s seriously addictingly good.

I like to make my spice, rub and seasoning mixes in big batches and keep them in large bottles with easy-to-pour shaker lids.

Spicy Honey Wings

A little sweet. A little heat. Those are the keys to a great wing sauce. These spicy honey wings have the perfect combination of both. Even with my Fire-Eater rub and a healthy dose of hot sauce, they’re plenty sweet. Perfect for dipping in a bowl of cold Ranch or blue cheese dressing.

Smokestack’s Wings

If you like traditional Buffalo chicken wings, but are looking for a little twist on the classic, then I guarantee you will love Smokestack’s wings. I did. A lot. The wings are dusted with a wonderful rub that has a nice herbaceous side to it. It’s the sauce, though, that is the kicker, especially if you love Old Bay seasoning. And I do. A lot.

Spicy Fried Buffalo Wings

I was craving some battered, deep-fried wings with some serious kick to them. My cravings were more than satisfied with these spicy fried Buffalo wings. With no lack of flavor, these wings packed great traditional wing sauce and crunchy, perfectly-fried wings. These wings are finger-licking good, so make extra.

Don’t Toss. Brush.

I like to brush the sauce onto my spicy fried Buffalo wings. That may seem a bit odd. And it takes a few minutes to do. But, I think it’s better than tossing the wings in the sauce for one simple reason. Tossing the wings knocks that delicious, crunchy batter off the wings. I don’t want that. Nobody does. So I prefer to brush them with the sauce. Or, I’ll just put the sauce in a sauce dipping cup and serve it on the side, for dipping just like I would blue cheese dressing.

If I’m cooking for a crowd, I’ll break out my big deep fryer. But, if it’s just the two of us, I’ll fire up my Fry Daddy fryer. It’s the perfect size for both of us. It fries everything perfectly. And as an added bonus, it doesn’t use a lot of oil, which saves me money.

Spicy Fried Buffalo Wings

Wonderfully spicy deep-fried wings.

  • Combine all of the seasoning ingredients, breaking up any clumps.
  • Place wings in a baking dish or bowl. Sprinkle with the seasoning and toss to coat well. Cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
  • Heat 2-3" of oil to 350 F in a deep fryer or Dutch oven.
  • Whisk together the eggs and the hot sauce in a shallow bowl.
  • Place flour and salt in a shallow bowl and stir to combine.
  • Remove wings from fridge. Dip the wings in the egg mixture and coat well. Shake off any excess.
  • Roll wings in the flour mixture and shake off any excess.
  • Working in batches if needed, fry the wings for 8-10 minutes, rotating gently to ensure they get cooked evenly. The wings will be golden brown. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  • You can toss the wings with Buffalo wing sauce if desired. I prefer to brush the wings with the sauce to keep from knocking the batter off of the wings. Or I serve the sauce on the side and dip the wings in it as I go. Click here for our guide on how to sauce your wings.

Spicy Fried Wings

Do not let the ‘spicy’ in spicy fried wings scare you off if you’re not into kicked-up wings! As written, these wings are perfectly spiced. You want more heat? Add more cayenne. They’re fantastic as-is. The wings have the perfect crunchy batter and are tender and juicy. Every bite is packed with flavor. So, to keep from everyone thinking I’ve abandoned classic wings and made grandma’s fried chicken, I served these with Buffalo sauce. Surprisingly, I like drizzling them with the sauce. Or dipping them.

No Dinky Wings Here

These spicy fried wings are dangerously addictive. They’re deceptively filling too. After eating one I thought “boy, I could probably eat 12 of these”. After 6 or so I thought “boy, I’m full”.

Brush. Drizzle. Dunk. But Don’t Toss.

If you like to toss your wings in Buffalo sauce (or any sauce), let me talk you out of doing that with these wings. Fried wings are of course coated. Besides, that coating is a big reason you made them. Tossing them in a bowl with a bunch of sauce and watching them bounce off the sides is a good way to knock all of that coating off. You don’t want that. Instead, I recommend that you drizzle them with the sauce or even brush it on instead. Or just dunk your wings in the sauce. But don’t toss them.

  • Combine salt and flour in another shallow bowl or pie plate.
  • Working in batches as needed, coat the wings in the egg mixture.
  • Shake off the excess and then coat them in the flour.
  • Fry the wings 8-10 minutes, flipping once. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate.

Spicy Herb and Garlic Wings

I’m not sure what happened. Something came over me when I was making the sauce for these spicy herb and garlic wings. The aroma was crazy good. My mouth was watering. I was so anxious to try it on wings. Though I admit to having quite a few ‘samples’ of the sauce as the wings cooked…. This stuff is great. Savory, herby, garlicky with just the perfect amount of heat. All thanks to a package of soup mix from Lipton. Who would’ve thought?

There’s absolutely nothing I’d change about these spicy herb and garlic wings. I really liked them. If you aren’t a fan of heat, you can definitely leave out the cayenne. But I liked it. It’s not overpowering by any stretch. And of course you can add more, or use less.

Spicy Sweet and Sour Wings

These spicy sweet and sour wings are proof that it really doesn’t take a pantry full of ingredients to make a fantastic wing sauce. It truly doesn’t get any easier than this. Just open two bottles, pour into a bowl and mix. That’s it. And the cool part is that you get to decide how sweet you want it to be. Or how spicy. It’s impossible to mess up this sauce.

I opted for Crystal Hot sauce in my spicy sweet and sour wings sauce. It’s got great flavor and just the right heat level for me. Sure, I’ve got hotter hot sauces around. If I was craving hotter wings, I would’ve used them. And if I’m more on the even milder side, I’ve got sauces for that too.

Spicy Mango Wings

Let’s all head to the islands and enjoy some delicious tropical-inspired wings! These spicy mango wings bring a little fruitiness, a little sweetness and as little or as much heat as you want! The sauce is the perfect consistency for wing-sticking enjoyment. I couldn’t find fresh habaneros in our market, so I used a good few shakes of habanero hot sauce instead. It hits my palate up front, then comes the fruity sweetness and all is good in the world again.

Fresh ‘n Fruity. And Spicy.

I used frozen mango chunks when I made these spicy mango wings. They’re always in season! They’re easier to deal with than a fresh mango and always perfectly ripe. It’s nice to keep them on hand for recipes like this and anything else that calls for mango.

The sauce on these wings is also great on grilled or smoke ribs. Or slather it on grilled chicken.

  • 3 habanero peppers stems removed (or use habanero hot sauce, to taste)
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • ¼ cup honey

Instructions

For the sauce

  • Place all ingredients into a food process or blender. Process until smooth.
  • Transfer the mix to a sauce pan over medium heat. Bring to a slow simmer and continue simmering while stirring often until thickened.
