Kroger Medium Buffalo Wing Sauce Wings

I’ve said it before. If you’re standing in the wing sauce section of the grocery store, trying to decide on the next sauce you’re going to grab for a great batch of wings, do not hesitate to try the store brand. I was at Kroger, and I couldn’t help myself. I grabbed one each of every one of their sauces, including the Kroger Medium Buffalo wing sauce. The sauce turned out to be perfect! A decent hint of heat and the perfect consistency. This is a mighty fine wing sauce, and boy, the price was right!

Kroger Medium Buffalo Wings

The Perfect Party Wing Sauce

If you by chance end up with any leftover Kroger’s medium Buffalo wing sauce, toss it in the fridge. Make sure you warm it a bit (at least to room temperature) before using it on your next batch of wings. Nothing makes hot wings sad faster than tossing them in cold wing sauce!

Kroger’s mild Buffalo wing sauce wings are great too!

Joey Chestnut Creamy Green Hatch and Jalapeno Wing Sauce Wings

I was intrigued when I came across a display of Joey Chestnut’s wing sauces at Jungle Jim’s outside of Cincinnati. All of the flavors sounded unique and awesome. I ended up making a batch of wings with Joey Chestnut Creamy Green Hatch and Jalapeno wing sauce first, and boy, let me tell you, this is a crazy good wing sauce. And it’s definitely different. It has just the right kick, the right spiciness. But the star is the green Hatch chile flavor. Man, it’s good.

This sauce is also great on taco salads. And tacos.

Joey Chestnut Creamy Green Hatch and Jalapeno Wings

Creamy And Different

Joey Chestnut Creamy Green Hatch and Jalapeno wing sauce is nice and creamy. At first you might think it’s a bit thick. But as soon as it hits those hot wings it gets nice and perfect. It sticks to the wings, but it isn’t overly thick, either. It’s definitely finger-licking good.

Remember that if you have to refrigerate your open bottle of wing sauce to let it sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes before using. You don’t want to ‘shock’ hot, just-cooked wings with a cold sauce.

Cravin’ Cajun Wing Sauce Wings

I usually make my own sauce when it comes to Cajun-flavored chicken wings. But, for something new I grabbed a bottle of Cravin’ Cajun Wing Sauce from Louisiana Fish Fry Products. Our local grocery store has a number of Cajun-seasoned items. Thankfully. Cravin’ Cajun wing sauce has a nice hot sauce kick to it, sort of like a traditional wing sauce, but with some great southern spice.

Cravin Cajun Wings

Great Flavor In Every Bite

So I just made up a batch of wings my usual way, cooking them on the Char-Broil Big Easy for a bit. You can also make them on a grill, smoker, in the oven or in a deep fryer. Then I tossed them in some Cravin’ Cajun wing sauce sauce and served them with Ranch dipping sauce. Easy. Great.

Want a really great way to cook up a huge batch of kickin’ good chicken nuggets? Just heat your favorite frozen pre-cooked nuggets as the package says, then put them in a large bowl. Pour on the Cravin’ Cajun sauce and toss to coat. Perfect for a huge party and down-right absolutely delicious!

Nightmare Wings

Our neighbor gave me a bottle of dried powdered Carolina Reaper pepper. I knew exactly what I was going to make with it: Nightmare wings. What I didn’t know, though, was would I survive?

Well, I’m still here! These Nightmare wings definitely packed a serious kick. But beyond that, they also had great flavor. These wings aren’t just about the heat. And if you prefer, you can certainly adjust the spiciness to your tastes. Jalapeno powder itself has just the right kick, while habanero powder brings just a bit more.

Nightmare Wings

A Serious Punch. Just What You Expected.

I enjoyed my Nightmare wings ‘dry’. That is, without sauce. The rub has such a great flavor that I really didn’t want to hide it under a sauce. Now, true, I did have plenty of Ranch dressing on hand for dipping. I needed something to help cool off the heat from the Carolina Reaper peppers. At 1.5 million Scoville units, they pack a serious punch.

I like to make my spice, rub and seasoning mixes in big batches and keep them in large bottles with easy-to-pour shaker lids.

Duck Fat Chicken Wings using the Vortex

Chicken wings cooked on a charcoal grill (I love my trusty Weber grills!) using a Vortex are the best. Not only do you get great flavor and crunchy skin, you get a light (or heavy.. It’s up to you, you can control it!) smoky flavor. You can’t go wrong with them. But you can make them even better using duck fat spray. What a difference it makes, too. They are better tasting and crunchier. These duck fat chicken wings using the Vortex are the decadent wings that dreams are made of.

Duck Fat Chicken Wings using the Vortex

Duck Fat And The Vortex Made For Great Wings

The Vortex enables you to get super-hot temperatures on a charcoal grill. That heat not only cooks them perfectly, it gives them a crunchier skin. You just cannot beat duck fat chicken wings using the Vortex.

Adding duck fat spray not only helps with getting that fantastic crunchy it skin, it also adds a fantastic different flavor than if you’d used vegetable or olive oil instead. It makes a world of difference.

  • Place the Vortex into the center of your grill and add in the charcoal. Open the bottom vents on your grill by 1/3.
  • Light a charcoal chimney full of charcoal. Alternatively you can fill your Vortex with charcoal and light them inside the unit.
  • Let the charcoal get fully ashed over then add to the Vortex.
  • If you want extra smoke flavor, place a small wood chunk or two over the center of the Vortex and let it ignite and smoke.
  • Place the wings into a large bowl. Spray lightly with the duck fat while tossing. Don't get them soaking wet, you're looking for a light coating. Think 'squirt squirt' and not 'fence painting'.
  • Add the chicken as shown in the picture above.
  • Close the grill and cook for 45 minutes. If you are using a large charcoal grill (22" or bigger) you might want to rotate the lid 90 degrees every 15 minutes. I haven't found this to be necessary on smaller (18" and 14") grills.
  • Transfer wings to a bowl and toss with your favorite seasoning and sauce as desired.

Notes

If you’re saucing your wings with a refrigerated sauce, make sure you bring it to room temperature first or warm it over medium heat.

Wing Master Ranch Wing Sauce Wings

Whenever my wife and I are in the Gatlinburg, Tennessee, area we always make it a point to swing by a Pepper Palace store. They have several stores in the area, including a new one in Sevierville in an area called The Island. We also usually end up at one of the stores in downtown Gatlinburg. The stores always seem busy. People everywhere are enjoying samples of the hot sauces and salsas, from the hot to the mild. Me, I headed straight to the wing sauces and in particular, Pepper Palace’s own line of Wing Master sauces, including this Ranch wing sauce.

So, as soon as we returned from our trip I threw a few seasoned wings onto my Weber Performer grill outfitted with the Vortex insert. When the wings were done I tossed them with the Ranch sauce and dug in. The sauce is mellow with a hint of Ranch flavors. There’s a slight wing sauce kick, but again, not overwhelming. It’s a very enjoyable sauce, that won’t scare off anyone that doesn’t like hot hot wings.

Wing Master Ranch Wings

A Wonderfully Tasty Mellow Sauce

Pepper Palace has a wide range of sauces, from the extremely hot to the nice and mellow. The Ranch wing sauce is nice and mellow with not a lot of heat. I seasoned the wings with your standard Ranch dressing seasoning mix, which complimented the sauce flavors perfectly. And since I was on a Ranch theme, might as well have some Ranch salad dressing for dipping!

Get To A Pepper Palace and Soon!

Pepper Palace makes a ton of great sauces and seasonings, not just for wings. Find a store near you and spend an hour or two wandering the shelves. They always have an area where you can sample sauces and spices, too. It’s like flavor heaven. Instead, if there’s not one near you, take a road trip (it’ll be worth it) or order online.

Stubb’s Texas Sriracha Anytime Sauce Wings

Stubb’s recently came out with a line of marinades and what they call anytime sauces. Our local grocery store had them all on sale, so I grabbed two or three bottles of each and headed on home with thoughts of the many things I was going to use them in. First up? Wings of course, so I grabbed a bottle of Anytime sauce and went to work making a batch of Stubb’s Texas Sriracha wings!

Stubb's Texas Sriracha Wings

Fantastic Flavor With The Right Kick

The heat from the Texas Sriracha Anytime sauce isn’t overpowering. Great flavor and a bit of a kick. It’s what I’d call the perfect bottled sauce, and absolutely the best thing for Stubb’s Texas Sriracha wings (or grilled chicken, or steak for that matter). It makes for the perfect (kicked up) substitute for the ‘normal’ Sriracha sauce you already use.

Private Selection Hatch Green Chile Crema Wing Sauce Wings

You need to stop reading this post right now and run out to Kroger and grab some Private Selection Hatch Green Chile Crema wing sauce. This is definitely one of the best bottled sauces you can find. It has the perfect yogurty creaminess. The perfect hint of Hatch chiles, a fantastic-flavored pepper that has just a hint of spiciness. Finished with a bit of lime and cilantro, I absolutely loved this sauce on wings. And I can see this sauce finding its way into other dishes. Like a southwestern macaroni-and-cheese for sure!

Private Selection Hatch Green Chile Crema Wings

This Sauce Is Great By Itself

You don’t need anything else when you serve up a batch of Private Selection Hatch Green Chile Crema wing sauce. No Ranch dressing. No blue cheese. Nothing. The sauce on the wings is perfect by itself and the last thing you want to do is dilute it with other flavors. Let it shine!

Remember that if you have to refrigerate your open bottle of wing sauce to let it sit out on the counter for at least 30 minutes before using. You don’t want to ‘shock’ hot, just-cooked wings with a cold sauce.

Noble Made Hot Buffalo Wing Sauce Wings

I was perusing the wing sauce section at our local Whole Foods when I came across a few bottles of Noble Made sauce, including their hot Buffalo wing sauce. Never one to pass up a new (to me) sauce, I grabbed a few and headed on home to make a big ole batch of wings. This sauce is good and spicy (hey, it does say ‘hot’ on the label!), has that great Buffalo wing flavor, and has the perfect consistency. And consistency is important. Too many sauces are thin and watery. You end up with 10 times as much sauce on your plate as you do on your wings. That’s not why you made wings. You want them covered in sauce, not swimming in sauce soup.

Noble Made Hot Buffalo Wings

Good And Spicy

Next time I’m at Whole Foods I won’t hesitate to grab a few more bottles of Noble Made hot Buffalo wing sauce, along with their other flavors. You can’t go wrong with it. It’s perfect for those occasions when I want a good spicy Buffalo wing sauce. It’s not for the ‘no spicy stuff for me’ crowd.
